So I got my normal bill today, which is all good. But hidden in there was a bookmark encouraging me to pay online and then Vodafone would donate to books in homes. Also fine.

However, on the back of the bookmark was a wee sentence saying that Vodafone was now charging $1.50 to send me a paper bill so I could pay them my $130 a month. What???? No letter, no change of contract, just a bookmark.

I quite like getting a bill so I can check for errors etc, and it does not get lost in the enormous amount of spam that comes thigh. For Vodafone to charge me to tell me how much I owe them, and in this cavalier manner ( no letter, no contract change) is just appalling. I won't be paying the additional amount, but will continue to pay them the amount for the service. If they don't want to send me a bill, then I won't pay them.

Simple

Yeah good luck with that.

Why should they incurr the costs of printing and posting a letter to you and not most other people?

Because they are trying to change the services which they charge me for. If you read my comment, it's at least as much about how they informed me. And I don't see them discounting the bills of those who do choose to receive an email bill????

You can view the full monthly invoice in PDF in ' My Vodafone ' on the main Vodafone NZ site and if you wish save a copy of it and also it's in the mobile app,

My Dad who is 73 views his monthly invoice online in ' My Vodafone ' and pays his mobile and fixed line bill via internet banking

It's right bang in the middle of the screen when you login ' latest bill ' PDF you can also view older invoices by clicking on ' View bills '

If you are not sure how to login to ' My Vodafone ' and view monthly invoices then ask away I can write a guide in a few minutes with screen shots

So the question is - why is the consumer being charged extra to receive a paper bill rather than having a discount for paying online - and why was it communicated in such an appalling PR fashion?

Invoices cost truck loads to print and post (This is done by 3rd party company) and clearly the PR worked you noticed it,

Edit: Think of the trees you will be saving

Yes, but a number of inputs to the business of telecoms are provided by 3rd parties, and these are not individually invoiced?

And the PR has just made me cross. I would have been more comfortable with an upfront letter that's stated it clearly. I noticed it because I read everything I get from some firms ( that may not have a high trust quotient). How many won't?

This is same reasoning behind charging a late payment fee instead of a early payment discounts that power companies do.

They could easily raise the plan cost by $1.50(as they're entitled to do as per the T&Cs) to cover the costs involve with sending out a paper invoice and give people a $1.50 discount for getting it online or do what they're now doing and not change the price of the plan and charge people who wish to get a paper statement the $1.50

It was all discussed on here ages ago and was well communicated at the time.

A bill insert seems to be a very viable way to advise of changes like this.

I wish I could bill companies that only send paper bills a scanning and shreading fee.

At the time it was discussed I seem to recall Vodafone saying it did not apply to those who paid by credit card - which I do. That seems to have gone out the window

Wasn't there complaints last time you mentioned that your elderly parents could do something a poster couldn't.

It was only a matter of time - it doesn't really make sense to offer someone a broadband service and still send out a paper bill.

Similar to the lovely johnr, if my 80 year old grandpa doesn't have an issue with viewing his bills online I'm sure you won't either.

Maybe add it my list but my Dad pays all invoices via internet even the rates to Auckland city council, He does not like invoices posted via mail, If I had advised him that he would be using internet to receive and pay bills 5 years ago he would of laughed in my face
