Hi, just a quick question about taking your vodafone to Australia??
ive tried contacting 777 but because i dont remember my password/pin, they wont help :S
And..im travelling there this thursday.

1st, how do i get my 021 working in melbourne?
do i need to register myself?
or send a simple text?
and anyone know pricing? main use is for text??
does our 2k text apply? or for someone in nz to text me in melb?

btw, im on prepaid...

would appreciate anyones help!

Since you're on Prepay AutoRoaming is active on your account already. This means you can roam on Vodafone only, if you want to roam on another network you will need to visit a Vodafone store and supply them with a credit card and details for billing.

The Vodafone website answers virtually all of your questions if you look at www.vodafone.co.nz/roaming

If you're using it for TXT I hope you're feeling rich. Your TXT2000 balance doesn't apply and all TXT messages cost 80c each to send. Receiving is free.

You can use Autoroam on Vodafone. This means you can only connect to VFAU, unless you have credit roaming enabled.

People texting you will be charged as usual, so for instance if they are on a TXT2000 plan - they will be covered. Outgoing text messages from your mobile will not be covered and will be charged at the rate described on the Vodafone NZ website.

Would recommend contacting Vodafone to sort out the PIN issue as soon as possible.

if your handset is unlocked (which it probably is if bought in NZ) and you're going to be there for a few weeks, I suggest going to Big W, Target, KMart or DSE and buying a $2 SIM card.

It has no credit, but you can just chuck $20 on it. If you're making lots of voice calls and sending text messages within Australia, this is just about worth it, as you are paying $0.25 instead of $0.80 per message. Same with no extra charges for calls.

Other than that, all the questions are asked, it usually is just as simple as stepping off the plane and turning your phone on.

Just be aware however that by law you are required to show proof of identity and and address to buy a SIM card in Australia. I've purchased one before and had no show nothing but typically you'll be required to at least show some form of ID so it would pay to have a passport or drivers licence with you.

I didn't find that, they just took my money. However in saying that, you need to activate the SIM card with Vodafone, so it's just a matter of giving the address of a friend or relative. If you go back frequently, make sure you choose the long life 'plan' (it's still prepay though, but it's like here with BestMate etc) as otherwise your credit runs out in 3 months instead of 12.

Correct, I was referring more to a prepaid 'plan'. Plan often implies contract, but I was referring to a prepaid 'plan'
