I have a friend with a Wellington CBD based UFB connection from Vodafone. Tuesday morning the internet went down so I got them to do the usual power reset story but this didn't resolve things so I went to have a look.

The supplied Vodafone router was still onsite so I connected UFB to that and it worked perfectly. Reconnected the Mikrotik and turned on logging and I am getting a PPOE confrej message in the logs. Nothing has changed on the Mikrotik though. I removed the config and re-set it up and same issue. Called Vodafone and they could only suggest using the Vodafone supplied router.

They did advise that the connection uses port based authentication so no username or password is required but the Mikrotik is currently setup with vlan 10 and PPOE with authentication and has been working for the last few months.

I have limited time to work on this and also to disrupt their internet - anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

Matt.

I didn't think Vodafone used PPPoE on UFB.

I'm on Vodafone UFB and I use DHCP on VLAN10 - no PPPoE.

Cheers.

Thanks for your reply - I spoke to Vodafone and confirmed I was using PPOE and the support person said they could see me trying to authenticate but they didn't say it had to be DHCP. Weird that it's been working fine for ages....

Will give that a try.

Cheers

Matt.
