I'm sitting here at work (Symonds Street) and neither my phone nor any colleagues have any 3G or GSM signal at all.  Do we all just have bad phones or is something down?

Not just you, I can't ring in or out of my phone, nor can I ring my gf's phone

A call to vodafone says "This service is overloaded, please call back later"

Who broke vodafone's network?

I am told by Vodafone that there's an issue affecting Auckland CBD and North Shore. This is being looked at right now.

Actually this one started first, that's why I locked your thread.

Vodafone WCDMA have problems, fallback to GSM, GSM is overloaded.

Is GSM down completely because it was overlaoded or are some people getting through and others not?

I've been trying for the past hour to make a call and it never works.

Hi all,

A hardware failure in the Vodafone network means customers north of Auckland are unable to make or receive 3G calls. Customers on Auckland's North Shore won't be able to send or receive TXT messages either. Access to voicemail is also impacted. Data services are unaffected.

We have technicians working on the issue with the utmost urgency and hope to have an update within an hour.

Obviously there will now be congestion on the 2G network as well which could take some time to clear even after we switch the hardware back on.

I'm getting an update at 8pm (2000hrs) so I'll report back after that.

Cheers

Paul

Right, the piece of equipment has been replaced and we're back on track bringing back the service. Coverage will come up segment by segment as we switch things back on so in the next couple of hours things should return to normal, congestion not withstanding.

Apologies for any inconvenience - hopefully it'll all be sorted shortly.

Cheers

Paul
