ADSL connection suddenly changed to VDSL and then back to ADSL

Weird thing just happened (~1:15am). I'm on an ADSL connection and it went down for a few minutes, when my router managed to resync it was syncing at about 55/33. I noticed that I was getting a lot of errors though and then I lost sync again. When I regained sync I was syncing at 42/24 with a 17a profile, that's when I noticed my router saying I had a VDSL connection. Once again though I lost sync and when I regained sync I was back to an ADSL connection with my normal 20/1 speed. This all happened over about 15-20 minutes. What just happened?

If you can get VDSL why are you on ADSL anyway?

Chorus may have been working on the local loop and accidentally connected you somewhere else temporarily. Most likely had no PPP if it even had the settings in there ready to go.

Quite possibly. Would be good if someone could look up his line then someone could look up that port in the Chorus 5530NA and see what is going on.

Sounds to me, that your ISP/Chorus was testing your line to see if it will handle VDSL.

I would put money just a tech working in your cabinet/exchange and just jumpered the wrong line up, realised the mistake, then put it back to normal.

I have never known for that to be the case and would not suspect they would change the service type on a line "For testing purposes". This may cause errors or damage with CPE blah blah...
They have pre qualifications for that.

It does happen.

Can state, there is a condition where this "testing" phase could happen. Normally is done with a field tech in-place and such though not at 1am...

This would only be on the grounds that VF have made an agreement with chorus to do upgrades.

I should state, this is something WE have been doing recently where applicable (our modems etc so it is seamless)

Today I woke up and found I had no internet, so I logged into my router and saw I was connected to VDSL again, with the same problem of PPP timing out. I called Vodafone and they told me that my ADSL connection has been changed to a VDSL one for free. All I had to do was change some settings in my router and now my internet is twice as fast. Also IPv6 started working again. I made this post about my issues with IPv6 a little while ago.

business model for it works well like 90% of the time. IMO more care should be taken to trim that final 10%
