Hi

Can anyone provide some light on what happens with a disconnected number after an acc closure?

My m8 (tradie) after an internal dispute (family business) had his folks close the acc. this arvo

What if any process can he follow to reclaim his number

Tia

From my understanding it goes into a pool of "can't be used again for x amount of time" then released back into the available numbers.

What does the number start with? I need to know if it's in the postpay or prepaid range

Then it's in the Spark range and would be passed back to Spark (When numbers are ported they are only loaned to carriers while active)

I.e the number goes back to Spark, is this immediate or held for 90days,

Or held at Spark for 90 days

Super,

So is there a process he can follow to reclaim his number back to a fresh post paid acc.

Or can he call our closest store and have them sort him out.

Thanks for the help, the business help desk hung up on me when they heard it wasn't a question about my acc

During this period only the previous account holder can reinstate the number. Obviously if this wasn't the case an accidental disconnect could be grabbed by somebody else.

I had a situation where a family member was involved in a bad car accident, and their phone got lost somewhere along the way, who knows where.

The number they had (Spark Prepay) was the same as their home number (well 027 - homenumber) so they really didn't want to lose it, not to mention other family members and people potentially only had that number as a point of contact.

I had to almost beg with a staff member at a Spark store to cancel the old SIM and re-instate the number on a new SIM, despite 3 of us present being able to show the staff member the number in our own phone contacts, being able to give some call history (they had called me a few days before) as well as looking in the white pages to show the home number matched the person in our phone contacts.

Was a serious mission but eventually got it done. I would think if it was on contract, and this person can confirm the details on the account, it would be a heck of a lot easier than what I had to do.

Thanks, it was a malicious disconnect.

So the current acc won't be reclaiming it and the ensuing litigation against the company of which he's a shareholder won't resolve in the above timeframes.

So it would be unavailable to him except through the original acc ?.

I assume there are no correct procedures to solve this in that case.

Being a tradie his phones everything to him and he would be able to satisfy everything being his, even still retaining the sim.

From memory it's 4 business days before it's relinquished to Spark. the number will always return to the originating telco.
