... And I'm not talking about the $2.5/week fee.

Last week I subscribed to mobile TV. It sounded interesting, and according to the website, "All you need is a 3G mobile and be in a 3G coverage area" and "you won't incur any data charges while you're watching."

The website, however, fails to mention that neither of these claims is correct.

I live within a 3G coverage area (with decent reception) and have a vodafone branded phone (a Sony G502) with default Vodafone APN settings.

Yet I can't access mobile TV! I browsed through the menu off the live homepage, but none of the streams would load (I just got a blank screen.)

Worse still (in my opinion), when I logged into the vodafone website, I noticed that my balance had decreased by ~20c. (since completing the sign up, I'd logged in to the site)

One week on, and I've noticed that every time that I've tried to access the streams my balance has decreased by between 1c and 20c.

The only pages that I've visitied are the live homepage, the sky mobile tv page, and the channel pages (which only exist on a couple of the channels.), yet I've been charged over $2 worth of data charges for a service which I was told was (and is supposed to) be free.

How do I go about getting a refund; without incurring any further charges?

You pay normal data charges to view all Vodafone Live! page(s) with the exception of the main homepage. All streaming TV video however is zero rates and does not incur any costs.

As for getting a refund I don't think there is anything to get a refund for - it does cost money to view Vodafone Live! - browsing Live! used to be free and you only paid for what you use, now you pay to browse all pages with the exception of the menu.

Then they are clearly using false advertising.

Nowhere does it mention that I'll be charged horrendous data charges for accessing the pages which I cannot avoid if I wish to view the streams.

If they had made mention that I would be charged for accessing such pages, there is no way that I would have subscribed.

(For that matter, I've already been told that these pages should be free.)

I actually defend Vodafone here and say that I don't actually think it is false advertising - Vodafone only say you don't use data charges to view the stream which is true. It is quite clear that data charges apply for viewing all Live! pages with the exception of the front page.

What I would be convered about is why you would be paying that much just to go to a few Live! pages - are you looking at other live! pages as well. Casual data is capped at $1 a day charged at $5/MB for the 1st 200kb and then you pay nothing more until you hit the 10MB limit where you are then charged $1 / MB for each MB over this.

It is kind of slack that Vodafone Live was free to browse for so many years and now it's not.

Everyone should have say 50mb of free data to use every month and then say 20c per mb after that.

Why can't it be that simple? Why does it have to be $5 per mb for the first 200kb then capped at $1 up to 10mb but after that it's $1 per MB for that day only then resets the next day..... WTF lol
