Hi - new to the forum and not really a "techie" so please go easy!

I live in a poor reception area being partially shielded from line-of-sight to local cell sites and as a result my phones connect to one several kilometers away with poor reception.  I have a few "hot spots" around the house but not in my home office where I need a reliable signal.

I'm aware there are restrictions (bans) on using repeaters but does this extend to low power (say 3W) boosters designed for a range of about 50m and do these units actually work?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers, Alan

Boosters are illegal in New Zealand. Both Telecom and Vodafone are working with manufacturers to release pico-cells though.

They are? We're currently using a product by a company called Wilson Electronics in our vehicles.

http://www.wilsoncellular.co.nz/

We were sold these by a Vodafone dealer.

Shame on the dealer and the manufacturer/importer/distributor if in fact using these is illegal.

Thanks - the Wilson unit may circumvent the restrictions as it looks as though it doesn't rebroadcast. I can live with that :)

The telecommunications frequencies can only be used by those companies who purchased blocks and cannot be messed up with.
