Gidday,

Am wanting to manually add the FTA TCL channels into my htpc software (the autotune keeps crapping out). Does anyone have a list of the TCL cable channels for each of the FTA stations? OR do I have to use some more TLAs?

I can't brain today. I have the dumb.

you could try tuning to your tv if your tv support frequency read out. then jot each FTA channel frequencies out.

otherwise. if your tv tuner is Hauppage, there is some article on www.thegreenbuttons.com (for MCE) and www.mediacentre.com.au (i think) has something about getting Hauppage's tuned frequencies ...

if you don't have it, let me know whether you are using TCL Saturn Digital or not, if so i can get the frequencies for you later tonight.

Ah, what a fine idea to use the telly. Will give it a go this evening. And yep. I am using TCL Digital - would be wicked if you could grab the frequencies just in case. Am using an ATI Theatre 550 Pro...

Okay this is what is on my tv. I set it up in the following order.

(all are on BG 5.5MHz range)

0 - Saturn Weather - 147 Mhz
1 - One - 112 MHz
2 - Two - 119 MHz
3 - TV3 - 126 Mhz
4 - C4 - 203 Mhz
5 - Prime - 266 MHz
6 - CTV - 133 MHz
7 - Maori - 553 MHz
8 - Decoder UHF Broadcast - 815 MHz
9 - Saturn Choose (Guide) - 259 MHz
10 - Saturn PPV - 245 MHz
11 - Saturn Mosaic (Index) - 252 MHz

Are you using a DVB-C card or just wanting the frequencies for regular analogue FTA channels?

As discussed a few weeks ago nobody seems to know yet if FTA channels are encrypted on the new digital cable platform or not.

I am just using an analogue card which will be plugged into the RF output on the digital box. The telly picks up the FTA stuff fine so assume my card will too. The FTA channels don't seem to be encrypted.

Since you're using an analogue card, the FTA channels would not be encrypted. After all they have to maintain compatibility with the majority of analogue decoders out there. The more interesting question is, are the FTA digital channels encypted? If not then I guess you could use some sort of DVB card to receive and record them directly in digital format

I've actually got a DVB-C device, and have tried it without any luck. I'm missing one key piece of information, the DVB-C Symbol Rate. I know what frequencies the muxes are transmitted on, I know they use Irdeto2, but I dont know what Symbol Rate they use. I've tried scanning using the common ones used around the world (6.900 MBd, 6.875 MBd etc), but these didnt work. Anyone have a buddy at TCL they can ask? Alternatively, anyone know the installer pin code so I can look in the installers screen for the digital TV box.

I actually suspect all the channels are encrypted, but even using a Irdeto CAM module and your original TCL digital smartcard, you may not be able to view the channels. Given a conversation I over heard between my installed and the 'guy back the office' he was talking to, I suspect they've actually paired (locked) the smartcards to the specific decoder serial number which you've been allocated.

I should point out, this is not related to hacking, and wont allow you to view channels for free, but rather finding a better way to connect the DVB-C digital channels to my TV (or to record them). I'm not happy with the current digital TV box, that only comes with a crappy composite connector.

i think you are right on the track... i believe they would have a total lock down on the service that your smartcard locked to the decoder MAC address.

all those aside, i "overheard" from another conversation that i had recently that in mid 2006, TCL will bring out "Mach III" digital decoder which should have better connection (i guess at least S-Video. and perhaps PVR too?)

So should be interesting to see that happening.
