Is it just me or have TCL digital finally started transmitting the Sky Movie channels in "proper" 16:9? Thank god for small mercies.

errr many movies are broadcast in 16:9 (WS) anyway... regardless if it is on TCL or Sky.

if the movie is broadcasting in 16:9, it will have (WS) added to the end of the movie title when you use (i) info button.

Well, up to recently, only the PPV channels were being sent out in true 16:9. The movie channels were being sent in 4:3 with enforced letterboxing added. When I queried TCL about this a few months ago they said they had not yet been sent the code from Sky for transmitting the movie channles in true 16:9. At least now the decoder outputs the correct aspect ratio for these channels to my telly.

When the TCL Analogue service was first released, they were still sending some movies in 16:9 which, of course, was not supported by the analogue decoders. This meant that a large portion of the picture was being cropped out. This was when they added the enforced letterboxing (well, according to my mate at TCL...)
