Why do we still get charged to access voicemail?

I find it really annoying when someone leaves a message on my cell, but I can't access it because it wants to charge me for it, even though I have 240mins of call time, 1000's of txt and 1GB of data on the plan, yet I still can't access the damn voicemail.

I guess it's because they can.. But your correct it should be a part of your minutes plan. Voicemail has been for the past 20 years a common type of technology that most people take for granted

I disabled my voicemail about a year ago. If its urgent people normally call again or send a text.

In my opinion there should be an option to get the message as an MMS or email so that you don't need to call and poke around with an audio menu in the first place.

I never use up all my mins so I just use my mobile to ring my own number, then press * key at the greeting and I have access to the messages.

This works fine on Vodafone.

Many new plans include free voicemail.

At least we're not still in the old days where it was a per minute charge for voicemail deposit as well!

I just:

  • Setup a number on 2Talk with no device registered to it
  • Recorded my voice mail greeting on it
  • Changed the call forwarding on my cellphone to this new 2Talk number

Now when somebody rings my cellphone instead of going to 2degree's voicemail system it goes to 2Talk's which plays the greeting, records the message and then emails the message to me (which I can listen to on my cellphone using data if I wish).  The forwarded call does come out of my included minutes, but since I'm up to over 12hours of carry over minutes that doesn't really bother me :-).

Thats exactly what I do

A call comes in via 2talk, if i am not in the office, it gets redirected to my vodafone LCA number on my cellphone, if the cellphone doesnt answer then it goes to my voicemail on another 2talk line and emailed to me.

If i am out of cell coverage or I dont answer my cellphone if a call comes in directly, it gets forwarded to the 2talk second line for the voicemail - which comes out of my unlimited national calling minutes.

That is one thing I love about vodafone - their call forwarding that comes out of your minutes - so when you have unlimited minutes, it becomes so easy.
