Lately my One Number feature seems to have stopped working.  My primary SIP registration works fine, but any attempt using "-1" or "-2" fails.

Some background info.

1. I've been a 2Talk user for more than 3 years
2. I've been using "One Number" for most of that time,  initially my config was TelecomNZ with 2 x LevelOne (German) phones,
3. I changed over to Orcon Genius in September 2011 and continued using One Number successfully,
4. I replaced the LevelOne voip phones with 2 x Thomson ST2030 voip phones about 6 months ago.
5. This problem surfaced about 10 days ago after working fine for 6 months.
6. I re-loaded the phone config file in case that was the culprit.
7. I disconnected both phones,  swapped the login details between the two and the "old secondary" phone became my primary SIP login and the "old primary" became my secondary SIP login using  xxx.xxxx-1.   The "new" primary one worked fine but the secondary would not register.
8. I have made no alterations to the Genius Modem/Router config other than the initial setup in September 2011.

SO,  I believe I've eliminated any issue with the phone hardware, phone config or my config of the Genius modem/router.

My only thought is that maybe Orcon have altered something either at their end or by remotely updating (sic) my modem/router....

Anyone got any ideas ???

Are you using 2talk or 2talk plus?

Is your sip server sip.2talk.co.nz and have you upgraded your 2talk account?

My server is sip.2talk.co.nz

I seem to recall changing over to 2TalkPlus quite a long time ago...

3rd party VoIP typically won't well at all behind a Genius device unless you get the SIP ALG disabled.

And yet it's been working fine since September 2011 until 10 days ago.... and using only 1 phone it's still working fine,  it's only the "One Number" feature that has seemingly stopped working properly

Oh is SIP ALG on by default on those routers Steve... ya, what Steve says.... don't even bother posting back if ALG isn't disabled.... been down that track with 2Talk.

If you're trying to register multiple devices using the same port (5060) and have a SIP ALG running you're just asking for problems. You could try different ports to see if this works.

As to why it's happened suddenly? Genius is a fully managed device, my pick would be that there was possibly a firmware upgrade that's changed something or reenabled the SIP ALG if this was disabled.

I checked the genius and it's using 5060, and both my Thomsons are using 5060.

I don't understand your reference to SIP ALG, is that something I can disable and if so how?

Reading that, I can see why it's not liked.

Robert if the router is managed then I'd suspect that Orcon will have to change settings for you.

Yea I reckon Orcon might have pushed a firmware update out to your Genius.

I think they lock out access to a lot of the box so you may have to contact Orcon and see if they can disable any ALG's running on the box.

Have you tried registering on 50600? Just append use sip.2talk.co.nz:50600 and see if that works.

I have no idea what the terms and conditions attached to your Genius are, but if you were desperate enough, you could always try installing an iiNet firmware?

I run an iiNet Bob Lite (aka Orcon Genius Lite) with iiNet firmware on it through Snap with 2talk, and I have no issues registering a second device using the 'one number' feature (1 x DECT cordless phone and 1 x iPhone).

Obviously you'd be proceeding at your own risk (I have no idea if you can install iiNet firmware, or subsequently revert to Orcon firmware).

PLEASE don't.  You'll likely brick your Genius.

Just use a port other than 5060 on your phones, eg. 5080, and you will bypass the ALG.

Then see how you get on.  It may be something else entirely, but we have seen the ALG causing problems before so I wouldn't be surprised.

Thanks everyone for trying to help,  I did try using 5080 instead of 5060 but then even my primary phone would not register.

I feel I've spent enough time on this issue and given that I intend to ditch my Orcon service later this year when my contract expires,  I've decided to manage with just using one voip phone on 2Talk and I'll revisit the 2Talk "One Number" feature when I have a new ISP.

In case you're wondering why I'm going to change ISP's,  today I'm getting good speed with Orcon, even my ping is good compared with the usual 90ms or worse.

Last night it tested at less than 1.00 Mb/s,  I've given up complaining to Orcon as they never seem to provide a permanent fix to the lousy speed  (before I switched to Orcon, I consistently achieved better than 6.5 Mb/s with Telecom).

Orcon need to get you off LLU gear and on to Chorus gear.

Did you try registering on 50600? As far as I am aware 5080 isn't an option on 2Talk.
