I recently signed up for a 2Talk business service,  while it works well on outgoing calls I do have some major reservations about incoming calls.

(a) I can receive calls from Telecom NZ landline and Telecom Mobiles.

(b)  I can receive calls from Vodafone mobile users in Auckland,   but if I try locally (in Christchurch) to call my 2Talk service from my Vodafone mobile I get a recorded message ""the number you have called is not currently active or is invalid".

While 2Talk Tech Support have tried to help, 2Talk & their upstream provider has been unable to duplicate the problem (probably because they are trying from Auckland and not Christchurch).

Vodafone after charging me an extra $1.00 to talk to a "live support person" told me it was not their equipment or service as I could place outgoing calls and receive calls with other telecos.

Has anyone else experienced this type of issue ?

Obviously,  unless this resolved the 2Talk service is virtually useless to me as a business service as I cannot risk advertising the 2Talk number unless it works from all  telecos.

Is this on an 028 or 03 number?

Sounds like it's definately a Vodafone issue. There have been plenty of issues with numbers from quite a few providers (incl 2talk, iTalk and Skype) not being routed correctly in the past and it would appear to still be happening.

In a nutshell the issue is new number ranges being allocated by NAD and occasionally operators miss implimentation of these in their own systems.

The number is 03 2818xxx

It is important to note,  that my 2Talk 03 2818xxx number is reachable from Vodafone Mobiles in Auckland,  but not reachable from my Vodafone mobile in Christchurch.

Vodafone have 3 switches in NZ - so a call in Chch will be routed via their switch there, not Auckland.

While I am definitely not an expert in telecommunications,  I guessed it was probably some kind of routing problem that related to Christchurch, given that Auckland Vodafone users could successfully call me.

The question is where do I go from here,  Vodafone don't seem to want accept any responsibilty and 2Talk to date have been unable to resolve the issue.

You might be better off trying to port a "real" number to get around these sort of issues. I had a few problems with my VFX allocated 09926.... number until I ported my real Pukekohe 09 238... number when I was with VFX. 2talk were good with my number port. It took about a week. If you have telecom number /edit account/ you can customer link a local telecom allocated number then port it to 2talk.
Cheers,
Matt.

Have you got anyone else in Christchurch with an 021 that can try ringing it? I am going to Christchurch in the morning and could call it then from my 021.

Cheers,

Matt

Unfortunately everyone I know in this area uses Telecom mobile,  the only Vodafone 021 users I know (other than myself) are all Auckland or Nth Island based.

I assume I can message you privately with my full number,   I'm more than happy "not to actually answer the call" to save u the cost of the call and subject to your Caller ID not being with held, I can call back to confirm it worked...

I am happy to call you as I have free minutes. PM me the number. I have just looked at my schedule and not there until the afternoon. I remember the hassles I had when I had the allocated number and trying to determine whether it was the number or the provider or the initiating network or the.....
