Hey guys

I have been searching around on the Internet but unfortunately couldnt find much help.

I have a laptop I am giving away, I thought I would remove my profile and set up another one for my friend, i was asked to put in a password to remove my account and enter in the details for the new one.

I thought I had done this, now when i'm trying to log in, it says wrong password, there was an option to reset password, I had to connect a flash drive, but it appears this only works if I had used that flash drive before I locked myself out.

Have I bricked my laptop?

Any help would be so much appreciated.

Thanks.

To OP - You should do this anyway before giving away a laptop.

i think you hold f8 BEFORE the hard drive starts to boot (AFTER you turn the power on) and there could be an option to reinstall and wipe all your precious life story.

(that won't wipe EVERY bit of the stored data but unless you are on the FBI's most wanted or are working on a secret multinational company project that should be fine ... )
