Client of ours just got upgraded to Office 2016 as part of their Office 365 Business subscription, great.

They went to reinstall Project 2013 which was purchased as a standalone product a few months back, turns out you can't. Standalone Microsoft products like Visio, Project etc are not supported with Office 2016 as part of Office 365.

Find this link:

Great - spend 15 mins on hold, get through to the answer desk, they can't process Business subscriptions even though the link says they can. They pass me off, I get passed off again and eventually hung up on. Lol.

Microsoft know how to make things hard for their clients.....

I have yet to run into this issue, what happens when you attempt to install Project 2013?
Did you try removing 2016, installing 2013 app and then re-installing 2016 again?

I have a couple of machines still running Access 2003 and 2016 (Click To Run) fine.

2013 click to run installations are incompatible with O365 2016 installations. We are dealing with this at the moment and it's a right pain. Earlier, non-CTR installations of 2003, 2007 and 2010 are not affected and can be installed alongside 2016 with no issues.

After multiple attempts at trying to get Microsoft to honour their "free" upgrade I have finally given in and advised the client that they need to purchase a new version.

Really poor customer service from Microsoft. Follow the link in the article to claim the upgrade, support people advise they can't handle business related issues despite the link clearly listing business subscriptions. They pass me around multiple places who all eventually just hang up on me.

Another attempt at this resulted in a similar message from the support rep, this time though I requested an escalation and threatened to cancel my business services with them and this got some action. After sending through my Project 2013 key the rep eventually just said that the key was invalid despite it actually working and refused the request and cut off the support session.

How to win friends and influence people Microsoft style!
