Released at around midnight last night (or just before of you we're after the disc). I stayed up for it :-)

Still waiting for the updates to configure as I went to bed as soon as I started the download. I've heard good things about the improved speed and such. Is anyone else booted into it yet?

Hehe I had this date marked on my calendar too but decided to avoid the initial rush for a few days.

I have been for about three weeks running beta versions of Ubuntu Studio 13.x on my desktop PC, but it's seemed a little buggy - mainly I think that has been due to the Xfce desktop which I admit I am not fond of and not experienced with.

I'm upgrading my RAID5 this weekend and may toss Lubuntu 13.04 on there for a test drive cos I am more familiar with the Lubuntu environment so have more experience to make comments about improvements (or not LOL).

Please keep us posted on your opinions peeps :o)

It's pretty good so far. There is an updated nVidia driver (ver 313) but it doesn't really add much. There are a few interface glitches, like the wallpaper being non existant, and if you have selected something in a list you can't scroll across but you can still go up and down. In the Software Centre the categories list isn't displayed correctly and you can't see what anything is. I've also had to remove all the third party repositories and add back the ones with Raring support, so some things wont be updated for a wee while.

That aside it's much faster, one of the big points to this release was the 'polished' feel it would have, and it has. The unity menu thingy is very quick now and right clicking things opens up the info screen instantly. I installed Synaptic from the menu by searching for it, right clicking and clicking install. Everything happens in the background now rather than opening up the Software Centre. The new icons are pretty nice too, more of that polish feel I guess. Steam still stays in the sidebar though which annoys me, but I guess that's a steam thing rather than Ubuntu.

edit - Now Cinnamon is installed time to try that. Hopefully it brings the wallpaper back.

Hmm. My upgrade did not go smoothly it would seem. Both Cinnamon and Gnome Shell are broken, despite having ppa repositories for Raring. Going to try the fresh install approach and see if that fixes some of my issues. Not a big fan of doing it this way as I don't currently have a backup drive. (All of my important stuff is backed up in U1 for the record, I'm not that silly.)

Well. Doing the fresh install was definitely the way to go. It is running very well now, the only issue I had was I downloaded the official Ubuntu ISO and used unetbootin to mount it to a USB stick. It caused an issue where /boot/efi/ wouldn't load at boot time. Using the unetbootin version of the image worked so they've obviously done a work around of some sort. I'm going to leave the third party repositories out of it this time and see it makes a difference at 13.10.

Anyone else done the upgrade yet? I'm still sitting happily on 12.04.2 I don't really want to mess with systems that are running well! Both my desktop and netbook are dual booting win7 and ubuntu 12.04 now. Maybe I should try it on the netbook as it should show the perf improvements more than the desktop will.

I have never had a pain-free distro upgrade, so now my practice is to keep home folder on a separate partition and do a fresh install every update.

OK, I have been running Lubuntu on my desktop since 13.04 and the only bugginess I have to report is with graphics. I am using xcompmgr with Cairo Dock and wondering if the xcompmgr might be part of the problem cos it has not been updated in what feels like a very long time.

Other possibility is that I might not be using the best option for my graphics drivers. Can anybody recommend the best linux drivers to select for a Quadro graphics card please?

I am going to reformat in the weekend and take Ubuntu Studio 13.04 for a test drive (using Cairo Dock instead of the XCFE desktop panels) and will report back in a week or so to let y'all know how I am finding that.

So far (fingers crossed) I am feeling that it was worth the upgrade :o)

Do the nouveau drivers work with Quadro? They're terrible when used with GeForce cards although they're heading in the right direction. I do like a fancy desktop though with nice compiz effects. Since getting 13.04 running I've found it much faster than 12.10, although I do get system crashes more often. Nothing bad enough to warrant a hard reset or anything but I probably send 1 or 2 error reports away per day. Hopefully the next upgrade will be much smoother though so I don't have to download all my Steam games again.
