I'm in the market for a new phone and would like to stay with Telecom, despite Vodafone having a much better choice of handsets.
I was looking to get another PDA, but I can't seem to avoid the restrictive and buggy Windows Mobile OS.
I've decided that all I really need is a good phone with the ability to synch calendar/contacts/files(incl.music) with my Macs.
Research on the current Telecom range suggests this is unlikely - any suggestions or tips?

Many thanks

What's restrictive on Windows Mobile?

When I say restrictive, I'm comparing the Windows and Palm communities. I don't know if its the Windows licensing arrangements, but there are a lot more Palm hacks, mods, apps, etc that are made freely available to pimp a phone and its OS. Call me cheap, or a fan of the open source philosophy...

Last time I checked there were about 40,000 titles for Windows Mobile on Handango - and a lot of those are freeware. Also a quick Google search for Pocket PC freeware returns a lot...

I think you might have the wrong impression on this...

Windows mobile (Windows Compact Edition (WinCE) For touch-screen PocketPC in reality) Is actually a very nice OS, I have used it for years and can swear by it and it's easy hackability. My brush with symbian was not nearly so nice, a very unhelpful community where everything comes with a pricetag and a very unhackable OS..
There was the whole "locked certificates saga" which did scare me off somewhat so do check on this.

There is so much old, cool stuff out there that supports WinCE Arm on a 320 x 240 touch screen (Windows Mobile) but I must say the "craze" is dying off a bit and most random stuff was written back in about 2000 - 2003.

Many thanks for your links and comments. I look forward to a review of the HTC Titan.
HTC appear to have used some popular smartphone and PDA handset designs for GSM products, lets hope some these make it to CDMA and TNZ testing...

I am selling a TREO 700wx with 1gb sd .... I sync it with my MAC using the mark space sync ... it has been a very good phone for me ... however my iPhone leaves it in the DUST!! PM if you have any questions about it's usability :)

Thanks for the offer, but I'm already able to upgrade to a Treo 700.
After 4 years with a whacking great Treo in the pocket, I'm looking forward to something slimmer like the Treo Centro or Sony Ericssons...

Yeah i must admit ... it is a bit of a BRICK ... It did pretty much every thing i wanted it to, apart from being wifi .... and i always found the windows compared to palm was 3 more steps to achieve the same outcome ... anyways ... good luck with the new toy which ever way you go.
