Hi there,

Recently I've been having troubles with Mail. It keeps downloading the same messages even after they've been deleted. If I delete, then close mail they come in again.

Also it seems to always say "downloading messages" at the bottom left of the screen. I've also noticed its giving the Macbook Pro a hell of a work out. When mail is open the fans go loud, and the battery drains very quickly.

So far I've tried clicking rebuild, no luck. Enabling and disabling the account, no luck. It does give the occasional error message which I click send to Apple. Next time it does it I will post it up.

Macbook Pro Early 2011,

OSX EL Captain 10.11.3

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please understand my knowledge of Mac stuff is pretty limited :)

What sort of email account - IMAP/POP? What other devices access the same account and how?

Can you log on through webmail to this account and delete to see if that fixes it? May be a single corrupt message.

If you click "Window -> Activity" (menu bar at the top), it should give you a better view of what it's actually doing in terms of communicating with your mail server.

Hi there. It just seems to sit on downloading 3 of 3. We have fibre so its not a massive download or anything.

Hi there, I just tried this. Seemed to work to start. Now instead of downloading messages it says checking mail consistently. I also just opened Activity monitor and it says CPU load for mail is 210%  which explains why the fans are working overtime and its super hot.

May not be overly useful if you're not interested in switching, but I gave up on Mail years ago, as I found it to be too unreliable. Especially when under load (I'd get hundreds of emails a day, due to automated server monitoring).

I'm currently using Airmail and have been pretty happy with it. I've also used MailMate in the past, but had to switch when my new work's Exchange server didn't support IMAP.

Thank you. I bought Airmail, now I don't have any problems! Nice interface too. Happy with the $14.99 investment. Cheers.
