Hi there,

I've noticed the last week or so my MacBook pro won't open Facebook on Safari or Firefox. Server not found error. It works fine from all other devices connected to the home wireless network. Yes I'm one of those silly people who doesn't do time machine backups often enough.

Is there any simple settings I can check that may be affecting this? OS X Sierra 10.12.1

I have Avast antivirus too which I've tried disabling.

You could quickly create a new local user account and try there. See if it's a system wide issue.

Do try this, it's one of the first things Apple Care will ask you to do. Helps isolate the issue.

I've had a similar error, the DNS server I was using on my router was no longer available.

Try manually setting your DNS on your Mac.

If that doesn't work, then check that you're not catching all DNS traffic in your router, and overriding it.

EDIT: Also try using an Incognito mode, as it could be a plugin or cache issue.

thanks for the quick response guys. I've just tried a new local user account, same result. Server not found.

You were on the money mate. DNS settings. I had them set up for DNS4ME account which I cancelled and hadn't reverted back to default settings.

I knew it would be something simple. Thank you!
