Hello Guys,

Not to be a moaner or anything. I've had this ongoing problem with Kiwimodz.
One day, arrived from work, I turned on my Playstation 3 60G model to discovered that it has a YLOD.
This is way back in January 1st 2012. So I snoop around for a good reputable repairer within New Zealand.

I know that a new Playstation 3 slim is only $400-$450 but there is something special about my 60G model. It has 500GB HDD upgraded, PlayTV FIFA HD recording, Game Saves and my precious pictures on it.
I found Kiwimodz off tradeMe and then visit on its official site. I contacted the guy who owned this repair business to arrange the shipping and time frame for this repair to be completed.

He said 2 weeks but he will be busy for 2 weeks then he'll get to it after. We agreed upon this conversation.
I shipped my Playstation 3 to him and waited. 4 weeks later, I contacted him via email and he responds, what do you know? He still had not touched it and too busy with his invoice taxing. He promised that the following week he'll be able to get around to it.

Another 4 weeks passed, still no diced. He starting to stop responding to my emails, I rung him up and he said do not contact him via phone and if I would like to communicate with him then do it via email.
It continues for another 5 months and I said please send it back in the original package if he still hasn't opened up the Playstation 3, I will sending it to another repairer.

He responds rudely and threaten to send it back in pieces for me to get it to another repairer, he'll charge me $80 for taken it apart. I told him, I can't take my Playstation 3 in this condition and no repairer would touch it. I asked him politely to finished his work on it so I can pay him. He said give him 2 weeks and it should be done and ready for me. What do you know? 2 weeks later he did not sent me any email to let me know the status of my Playstation. I had to followed up with him via phone calls.

Now it is leaping toward October, I still have not update and no news. Should I start consider reporting this to the police and the consumeraffairs.govt.nz? I am a Playstation 3 out of pocket. Consider the trouble I've been through, I just want my Playstation 3 back alive.

If anyone living around Wainuiomata, Wellington could give me a hand then please let me know. My patience had ran out of steam. Seriously need advise.

It seemed that it is not just me having this problem:

Sorry for my bad grammar.

Regards

Have you told him that if he doesn't send it back you'll contact the police?

If he agreed to a time frame, and still has it 8 months after the time frame has passed, he's stolen it.

Is he the same guy that runs x-mods.co.nz? I'm in Wellington, but unfortunately no where near Wainuiomata, and heading away for a holiday tomorrow. Otherwise I'd go pay him a visit!

Also give him a bad service review on here, explaining everything in detail!

I have threatening to go to the police yet. I'm waiting for some inputs from Geekzone members.

The guy calls Scott and yet it is the same guy from x-mods.co.nz.
This time seem to be a fraud if he is operating more than two sites and yet everything sent to him seemed to be either disappeared on closed to being forgotten.

I really need someone to knock on his door for me :(
Sadly, I can't go because I have to work. I'm 8hours away (drive) from his address.

He has my Playstation 3, if I leaving bad comments then he might not giving it back to me in original condition. But I'll report it to TradeMe and get them to do something on their end too.

I have also sent TARGET an email regarding my issue. I hope they look into it and get this crook out from his comfort zone.

I should be able to help out with a door knock when I get back from Melbourne in 2 weeks, unless of course there are closer Geekzone members that want to help out?

Definitely report it. If he damages it any further then you'll be able to go to the police

Are you on GPForums? Put a message up on there, they are usually very helpful too!

No I am not. But I will create an account just to post it on there too. I don't want others to have the same experience as I am right now. Frustration has became my middle name.

A flatmate of mine dealt with them and they're useless. After about 6 months of mucking around and "I'll get to it" he wanted to give up and asked him to send his Xbox360 back, and he'd "lost" it. Despite winning an auction specifically to fix the RROD, he was very reluctant to take it in for repair as the repairs were "unreliable" - Why run the auction in the first place then!?

I've been around to the guys place when I dropped said Xbox360 off for the flatmate, and he is/was running the "business" from his mothers house (which she didn't seem real pleased about) with the stereotypical Wainui' 2 broken cars on the front lawn. This was about 2 years back so it's conceivable that he's moved.

I'm amazed that he's still operating, getting someone official onto him might be a good idea.

Thanks, I'm going to pop-in into the police station in 20mins. It is just 10mins away from where I work (walking distance).

Take printouts of any correspondence with you just in case it actually is something they'd look at.

Went to the Police station and they told me to go and see a lawyer. :(

No printouts going to do anything when the Police doesn't want to touch it.

Small claims court would be a way to approach it.

It's probably a bit small for target, fair go maybe. It'll be very very slow though, small claims court will serve papers within a week I guess.

Easy, there's a guide here. You basically file at the court house, they deliver papers saying they're being sued and when and where to turn up. Receiving them will do one of the following:
 - Encourage them to fix it ASAP and return it to you
 - Return it as is
 - Destroy it out of spite
 - Sell it

Having critical data not backed up is pretty stupid, especially on a console you have little control over. Sony could decide to wipe it any time, or the hard drive could fail.

Yes it was a once false move :(

Never again not backing up a PS3. I'm going to get a new PS3. I hope to find my old data. If I have it somewhere. Got to look for it.
