I'm looking at purchasing a Panasonic 50st60 and both Magness and Harvey have told me they can do a deal for 1500.

So the question for me really is who has better after sales support in regards to warranty and replacement, etc.

Any personal experiences good or bad are appreciated.

Many retailers will refer you to the manufacturer if it encounters a problem, so probably not much difference. They are commodity items these days, as they are essentially reselling the same product, so probably makes no difference where you buy it from.

I have no experience of Magness Benrow but do have of Harvey Norman. Over the years I have purchased a lot of kit from them. I have only had problems with two items and they were taken care of with no hassles or dramas.

We purchased a dishwasher from Magness Benrow a couple of years ago. After the delivery guy left, I noticed the door was dented along the right edge. It was probably just cosmetic, but I was worried it may affect the seal. I rang them up, and they arranged a replacement to be delivered the next day, no questions asked.

They can refer you to the manufacturer if they want, but it's the consumers choice as to whether they deal with the retailer or the manufacturer.

They can refer you to the manufacturer if they want, but it's the consumers choice as to whether they deal with the retailer or the manufacturer.

It is often easier for the consumer though, as they will usually have an 0800 number which you can then arrange for repair. If you go through the retailer, you are going through a middle man, and it can be a bit more time consuming. However obviously if you have a problem dealing with the manufacturer, you would go to the retailer to sort it under the CGA etc.

Then you should go to either one of the stores and tell them that the other store can do this TV for the same price and see which retailer can offer you the lowest price. If one refuses say, okay, I'll just go and buy it from [other store]. :)

+1 on that. Try it with Harvey Norman's first. When I bought my TV from them I had a similar situation and by negotiating I walked away with a HDMi cable thrown in and a very nice TV stand.

FWIW, I've bought a lot of gear from Harvey Normans based on (a) their prices are always negotiable, and (b) after sales support. I've had a couple of items pack it in within the first three months and they never asked me to deal with the manufacturer or to send it in for repair. In every case they have swapped the item over for a new one with no issues whatsoever, all sorted out in one visit.

That's what I had already done, list price was near 2k for both stores and they both have told me that 1500 is the lowest they can go.

Did you also say that store A was also offering it to me at the same price, so why should I buy it here, or what other offers can you offer me etc.?

My response to that would be to ask what else they can do. It's not always just the price. If you need cables, a stand, delivery, or anything else to go with it, ask if they can include that as part of the deal (don't be greedy though - these firms have to stay in business!)

Their margins are pretty tight, there's only so far you can push them. Just buy from HN, people have said their service is good.

They dropped the price of the 50ST60 for me to around $1500. I was actually after the model down (didn't need 3D), but stock on that was extremely hard to come by. I'm actually glad for the "forced" upgrade in specs. Not so much for the 3D, but for the better overall picture quality.

Pretty sure Noel Leeming have the 'cannot use the gift voucher in conjunction with any other promo' to avoid price matching AND giving away $250 gift cards...
I don't believe ST's will get much cheaper as there's not going to be a replacement model coming in and forcing the price down.
