Like many on here I'm sure we have pet insurance for our pooch (only purchased after the first huge vet bill of course). Our boy is a few months off 5 years old and has been covered for the last 3.5 years or so with PetPlan. We've made a few claims over the years, usually around the $300-400 mark which have always been accepted and eventually paid out. Last insurance years premiums were $43.90 per month so PetPlan are well and truly up on us so far (Oct 2016 - Oct 2017).
Checking the CC transaction list for the month and I noted that they had taken $74.83 out for this months dues, a 70.45% increase... a call to my wife and she found an email in her junk mail folder from them two weeks ago along the usual lines of 'we aim to keep costs down but as pets are living longer and expenses are rising we are having to increase our dues a bit' - the standard fair. The email is the only communication that we've received from them this year. No letter. No follow up emails. Nothing bar a single email that landed in Hotmail's Junk Folder.
Am I being too harsh here to say that this is pretty darned poor? Every other insurance we have sends letters with each policy change well in advanced. I don't know who provides their SMTP service but if they can't get a simple policy update email through to Hotmail for an Insurance company then they need to find a new provider. I run a small mail server (which I've recently switched to a new IP) and even I can get emails through to Hotmail 99.9% of the time.
I'd love to know their justification for a 70% increase.
We are cancelling our policy today and may look at taking up coverage with another provider. Otherwise the $74.83 will be put into a separate account each month as we'll self insure.
Anyone else seen such a large increase with PetPlan this year?
