I hit countdown up about texting me after I'd opted out.  Now they're saying it's a phishing scam?

Seems pretty legit to me...

It links to a real page at Countdown.

What made you think it was a scam in the first place - It appears you asked them if it was?

Hi Countdown, Please stop

After the 'stop' reply they suggest fails.. that's not exactly asking if its a scam

Guessing their PR didn't spot its an SMS screeny not an email. And will likely end in 'Onecard handle the promotions not us' if you sought further

The reply to the first text opted you out of Onecard alerts, Not general Countdown Sales alerts.

How timely. It must happen this time of year to lots.

Their historic pages are still hosted but not direct linked. These appear under a -phased-out url

To opt-out of Onecard email or SMS communications, simply log in to your Onecard account on countdown.co.nz and visit 'Email Settings' page to opt out of the email or SMS communications you no longer want to hear about.

Alternatively, you can call the Onecard Customer Service Centre on 0800 40 40 40 or email Onecard@countdown.co.nz

They've come back and said it's not a scam and they'll look into why I'm getting the texts after opting out.  All good

This is what I was wondering - they might have various systems using the same SMS gateway or something? You might have to reply with stop a couple of times to stop all the texts?

Well yeah agreed. Just speculating on what it might be, given that the wording of the original SMS says "to cancel onecard alert, reply STOP" and the second one doesn't mention onecard.

Yet another reason to not get the 'loyalty' card in the first place
