I am sitting here listening to some of my usual playlists and just wonder what else is out there that I don't know about.....

I am keen to expand my horizons and listen to something new (to me), what are you go to Artists, or Albums?

I enjoy almost all music apart from "mainstream" pop. Born in the mid '80s and grew up listening to a mix of grunge, rock, nu-metal, and rap.

Hit me with what tickles your ears.

Is Amaranthe sufficiently non-mainstream? I stopped listening to almost all new music in the early '90s, but for some reason I like a few of their songs.

Not great on my PreSonus speakers... nowhere near enough bass. Great for most of the music I listen to though.

Never heard of them, I guess I personally define "mainstream" as something you are likely to hear regularly or at all on the radio (The Edge, ZM, The Rock....)

Will add Amaranth into the mix though. Thanks.

Oh my.... this is opening up to possibly ANYTHING! What is mainstream!? Who you ask will determine the answer. What you're "in to" will determine what you will probably also like!

You're about 10yrs younger than me...

A band I think were criminally underrated in the UK are Puressence. Will everyone like them? No... of course not.  So who might? Well... I went through the Britpop years and loved that music (obviously not _all_ of it). And ironcially you might describe Britpop as upbeat guitar songs and Puressence are definitely NOT THAT. I loved the Madchester scene too and this band are from Manchester. Im not sure how to describe them. The lyrics can be haunting...depressing even. The song I first heard from them was this one. They also have an absolutely banging cover of Bright Eyes too - when my wife heard this she wanted to know who it was and she's a bit of tough nut to crack with music (especially the music I like!)

I personally would not call that mainstream, That clip brings back memories of 8Ft Sativa for me, the female in that particular clip adds a great touch to the hard screams. Will be looking at more of this. Thanks

That's a name I have heard, but I believe I have never listened to. Will be adding it in, and having a listen too.

Cheers

Another vote for Nightwish here.

If you find that you enjoy Amaranthe, then might I suggest Beyond the Black:

or Ad Infinitum:

or perhaps Visions of Atlantis

If you'd like a little history lesson while you're listening, then Sabaton might tickle your fancy:

Lastly (for now at least, least I create a wall of videos) @SirHumphreyAppleby, may I suggest some Null Positiv to tickle your bass:

Eli Berlin generally only sings in German, but she has an incredible voice.

(Yes, I have a thing for powerful female singers 😂)

A band that I think would have been mainstream if they stuck around are King Cannons. Just as they seemed to be getting some airtime they fell apart. Pop punk band from NZ/AU.

I'm enjoying all the links, its awesome to see so many females too!

It got me thinking about Tadpole from the late 90's early 00's.

One female artist I occasionally chuck on, if I'm after something much softer is Hanna Boel, The Misty Paradise album. Def wont be everyone's cup of tea though.

Considering I find very little entertainment in commercial music radio stations music, my picks are:

Savatage / Trans Siberian Orchestra - Symphony Rock music
1200 micrograms - psychedelic beats. Kinda like disco on speed
John Digweed - groovy tunes.

I do enjoy early and contemporary rock, etc music, but not when it's infested by adverts and chatty dweeb.
