Our Navy has found the reef it was looking for.
Well done, team.
Hope we don't send another ship to find the first ship😆

So, so many questions ...
The court of inquiry and subsequent court martial will answer some of those.

I figure the new recruit from the Ferries hasn't worked out......
common sense is not very common

Bit early to presume that someone will get charged for it, isn't it?
I think “Grounding of one of HM Ships” is automatically a Court Martial.

Saw it on the media early this morning and I see it has now turned into a submarine ... someones definitly going to get their butt kicked.
I know the OP was being ironic, but surely there is a more accurate title for this thread?

Ferries, barges, and now naval vessels.
Fingers crossed our Americas Cup crew know how to stay inside the lines.

The HMNZS Manawanui - a specialist dive and hydrographic vessel - was conducting a reef survey when it hit the reef on Saturday night.

Well it was doing a reef survey, so present charts were old, inaccurate, even non existent.
Necessarily getting closer to the reef than normal navigation safety would allow.
Not sure if it had the best modern 3D sonar technology, or older survey gear that would have left them vulnerable under certain conditions.
They did have a successful mission clearing out old WWII munitions from harbors.

We do design and manufacture some nice 3D Sonar kit, not sure how this might compare with what they equipped.

Everyone is fine, so that is great, facing a Military Tribunal will be no cake walk though.

Navy dispels concerns HMNZS Manawanui is leaking oil

"The divers went out this morning to survey the ship ... and from what they've reported there has been nothing leaking from the ship once it sunk."
"" In about 30m of water
"She's very stable, she's lying on her side in that depth of water and quite stable."

Maybe quite salvageble, but given its large topheavy structure it may foil any refloating.
Its not like you just fill it with ping pong balls and it just pops up and alls good.

Stream the recovery efforts, sell sponsorships and it might just pay for the whole thing, or make a profit.
China has some very large floating salvage cranes but they seem to be busy with a Nuclear Submarine -Or Not-.
I know some of the people on board and have heard some details of their ordeal.
Sounds like the fact no one died was a bit lucky and things could easily have ended up in tragedy.
