Hi, I'm presently sitting watching the angry waves on the Gold Coast as we wait for the cyclone to arrive. Latest prediction is now early Saturday morning. Has been put back a few times so have had to go again to get more supplies.

Was sunny for a while this morning but wet and pretty windy at the moment.

I'm surprised that there were supplies to be re-had.

The way the news has made it look, there isn't a single store with groceries left in it.

Hopefully, it passes by, changes direction, or just dies out and everyone stays safe and healthy.

I was flying into Brisbane tomorrow 9AM. Delayed to Sunday 9am. Hopefully, it's sorted by then, or at least safe.

I'd be keen for on the ground updates so if you could regularly go outside and give a weather report ala TV, that would be super appreciated :)

Bands of rain coming through. Wind is pretty strong and fairly constant. Expecting up to 150kph when it finally arrives.

The authorities are very concerned and expect severe flooding.

Waves are pretty big. The biggest ever recorded wave was recorded this morning.

Brisbane is very calm at the moment, strange things happening.

I'm also there. I was supposed to fly out this morning but they cancelled the flight yesterday evening. I'm currently scheduled for Saturday morning but I'm guessing that's going to be delayed or cancelled too.

The flood map doesn't show any potential flooding in the few blocks around where I am, and there's a route back to the M1, so I'm not too worried about flooding. Winds are coming from the south and all the windows in this apartment are north-facing. We have plenty of food and water, including stuff that can be eaten cold if necessary.

There was a bit of wind earlier, although it seems to have died down a bit now. A drink can got blown out of a rubbish bin and into the street not too long ago.

Some local councils been clever

Covering street power distro and comms boxes with literally a sealed portaloo like structure with no bottom. Dynabolting them down with straps.

Idea being they act as an upside down glass in a bucket of water. Compressed air pocket to keep the level around it low

It's been a very windy night. We are on level 11 of a 30 story building and can feel a shudder from some of the stronger gusts. Probably feel more when it arrives at 4am Saturday(7amNZ).

Going to be very hard for many residents and unfortunately many will  be flooded out. Evacuations have been ordered in some areas. I hope there are  no fatalities.

We have a friend who is between houses and is currently living in a caravan on the GC.
I can't imagine she's feeling that great right now...

A friend of mine lives in the northeast part of Brisbane. Haven't heard from her directly but her last post on Facebook indicated everything seemed okay where she was - I think it's called Murrumba?

Seems the reporting of this has become a bit overblown (😊) - landfall tomorrow with 90 kph winds and gusts up to 130. Not particularly extreme. Expected to be downgraded to Category 1 soon after landfall.

Interesting. While I'm certainly not in an ideal location (such as back at home, away from the storm!) it seems that we didn't pick too badly. I'm on the north side of the building, on the 9th floor, and I didn't notice anything unusual about last night. Even now when I look out over the street, it just seems like a gentle breeze (albeit with some rain).

This building is near the top of a rise, so any water is just going to run right off. I think the only thing we really need to worry about here is a potential power outage.

My flight out, which was supposed to be tomorrow morning, has been rescheduled for Monday.

If you look closely at the current forecast, it looks like "landfall" is actually over one of the islands and that it's expected to drop to category 1 before it reaches the mainland. Of course, that doesn't mean it won't do any damage, but it's perhaps not as bad as the media was making out.

Credit to channel 9 news for suggesting that you not watch too much coverage if you're nervous.

In many places it not the wind they are super worried about its that its being accompanied by Huge amounts of intense Rain, and the low pressure will deliver a storm surge...

So if the timing is bad and it crosses the main population areas at high tide, you are likely to end up with significant flooding, with rivers unable to flow out to the sea...

Brisbane high tide is 4.45am tomorrow morning, about the same time as it is about to arrive.

Flooding is the big problem that will probably affect most people.
