I was on Orcon UFB on the 100/20 speed plan

Then my mobile phone provider (2Degrees) cold-called and wooed me, offering me gigabit fibre for the same price I'd been paying for 100/20 on Orcon. So I switched.

When their Router (Fritz!box 7490) arrived I connected it and they took over my connection.

I then contacted Orcon to cancel, but as expected it's a month's notice, no biggy.

Then I did a speedtest. 100/20

Hold up, hold up... I asked for gigabit. So I check my account on 2D, gigabit's definitely loaded. Contacted them, they said it's activated on the account.

Power-cycled router, ONT... same result. 100/20 again.

Is this because I was on Orcon and they've somehow got some kind of hold on the line to my house to limit traffic to all providers to 100/20??

I don't know enough about how fibre works.

Realistically 100/20 is plenty fast enough for domestic purposes, but if the gigabit's not gonna work, then I'm going to ask 2D to take it off my account, there's a saving of $44 per month.

Anyone experienced this before or know what could be wrong??

Are you sure you have been moved over?

https://www.whoismyisp.org

Plus the ISP needs to finish the provisioning to make sure you are on the right speed as it needs to match on both the LFC and RSP to not get wildly inaccurate results.

Plus are you sure your hardware and software is up to it?

Who is your LFC and did you plug your router into the correct port on the ONT?

Question. Does this mean if one of the RSP/LFC had the old speed, that the speediest will vary a lot? Id have assumed that in this case if either the RSP or LFC had 100/20 it will be limited to 100/20 with no real variation. If the LFC ws Gbit and RSP was 100/20, that might be a bit variable as its more a soft setting?

Sorry OP, OT slightly
