Hey All,

Chorus are coming around today to scope out UFB install and I can see its going to be a Aerial install due to all other services going in that way.

From where the ETP would go to the ONT, does that get cabled within the ceiling space inside the house or do they usually try and wrap it down the property on the outside then go under the house?

Just trying to figure out what I can push for as I do want the ONT to terminate in a wardrobe that is in where my office will be and the other side of the wall is the lounge.

Cheers

Hi, they will go for the path of least resistance and lest effort, they are not payed much for the job, so keeping it minimum is good. So if the ETP ends on the wall up high under the eave and its easy ceiling space directly behind that and from there easy ceiling space to the wardrobe then they should be good with that. But where is power, the ONT will need power.

Cool, There is a power point just outside the wardrobe door so that wont be a issue with a small extension cable to the wardrobe as I will eventually get a sparky to put a power point in the wardrobe so I setup a micro comms room in there

Every installation is different, but for my old place (also aerial install), they cabled tied the fibre down the guttering and then under the house.

My parents had a fibre aerial install done we told Vision stream guys where we wanted the ONT in kitchen and the complete job took under 2 hours and they ripped out the copper from ETP to pole

If you're able to install a conduit yourself to where you want the ONT placed, that'll make it much easier for the install guys.

If its in a closet then it should not be too hard to install either in the rear wall of the closet or if need be surface mounted conduit on the inside of the closet, all depends how picky and precious your closet it. If the ONT is near the top of the wall in the closet then surface mounted conduit is probably not a biggie, then again access via the top plate into a wall cavity at the top of the closet wall is easy too.

Just had the scoping done and they are going to do everything I wanted.

But of coarse its not that easy as the power pole is across the road where Chorus has strung the Fibre and Murphys' law that is the only power pole on the street where it is on someones property and not on the footpath edge like the rest of them.
