Have just shifted house last sat, and the new place
is near a adsl2 exchange so i am now on adsl2.

the last house i was at only had adsl1 and had av speeds of
downstream: 6000kb
upstream: 650kb

now the new house with adsl2 has
downstream: 800kb on speednet and 2000kb on telecom
upstream: 200-400kb

now that's just whack so i rang telecom and they did a line check
and told me speeds are:
downstream: 6000kb
upstream: 950kb
(and these are good speeds)

now i asked if the reason for slow speeds is coz the house is kinda old
so the wiring may be old but they said nupp it should be algood.

i have filters on every phone jack in use and have a thompson tg585v7
(same modem that i was using at the other place with same config).

Now i play online gaming via xbox 360, and my old adsl1 connection was
awesome and i could host and give aussies and kiwis (not all but alot anyway)
full bar and i could also get full bar, but now after moving house my connection
sucks! i get a bad 3 bar connection and can't even get full off hosts that have
like 2000kb up (on cabel).

anyone got any ideas, this is really frustrating?

What are the values for SNR and attenuation in your modems admin status screen?

bandwidth speeds are close enough to what telecom said, so why don't i feel these speeds?
and is this all u want?

That's a good start - how near are you from the exchange? it looks like you might be just over 2km from the exchange if you are constantly getting about 6000kb/s

did you do a speedtest and is that how you get 2000kb/s?
how did you do your speedtest like - did you do the test via international traffic or national traffic?

What plan are you on? big time?

there are so many factors involve in your throughput - you will need to provide more details to the community to help you out :) or maybe re-ring Telecom to ask more questions to improve your speed.....

not sure exactly where the exchange is but i am close enough to b getting good speeds.

ok i just did a speedtest at http://www.consumerspeedtest.org.nz/ and got
down: 3000
up: 600
the 600 upload should be enoguh for xbox live but i dont seem to 'feel'
that 600, it more or less feels like 300

plan im on is the 10gb one NOT capped so that isn't an issue.
and im asking for help/info so i don't know what info u guys may need,
but feel free to ask away

am wondering if i should get 'interleaving' turned off?
heard it helps from a couple gamers but aint too sure.

How many filters and phones do you have, how many points. For an DSL2+ connection with 18dB attenuation you should have a sync speed twice what you have, I would be looking at house wiring issues.

house is pretty old so could be the wiring?
should i have filters on jackpoints with sky coz they
do use a phone lines dont they?

if thats the case we have 4 jackpoints active,
filter for the modem, filter for the phone, and if required i will
put filters on the 2 sky decoders.

Over 3 filters in the house is quite high and would be putting a lot of noise on the line, I would recommend installing a whole house filter, costs about $50 but worth every cent. Telecom would charge $120 for the honour (might be even more now that they have dropped downer as there line maintenance company).

its $199 for splitter install with tcom.
downers are not being dropped as a contractor they will still continue to service some patches, just not as many as they used to.

so installing a splitter will mean i don't need any filters?
do i get tcom to do it for 200 or can someone else do it cheaper?

Correct once a central filter is in you dont need inline filters and all the house wiring bar the line from the demarc to the modem is bypassed.

If in the Welly district I can do it for somewhat less, conciderably so. PM me if interested
