Run across this little URL in my travels :

http://www.youtube.com/my_speed#

Forgive me if it's been posted before on this forum but I did at least attempt to do a search to confirm if it was here already and found nothing.

It gives you a speed aggregated from their video servers. It also gives you  a little test video you can do to show you your streaming information in realtime.

PS Terribly sorry if this is in the wrong forums. No sleep lately lends to little mistakes :(

Uh oh. Xnet looks really crappy there. Auckland sits at 2.53 Mbps, while 'my ISP' (WorldxChange / Xnet) only has 1.24 Mbps.

If that chart is reliable then this is pretty lousy!

Not sure how reliable it is.

It does however offer you a Live movie that you can use to test your speed out in realtime.

You could possibly replicate that test somehow manually I guess to check if its accurate :)

EDIT :

What I mean is the Live movie is downloading/streaming a file and calculating what speed its doing that in realtime.

You could see if you could replicate it by downloading / streaming that same file and noting down what numbers you are getting then compare that to what it says it is.

Yes, this was posted in the long TelstraClear vs. YouTube discussion but I don't think anyone posted in a thread of its own.
