So my 4 month machine is giving me some serious grief.

Specs:
Intel i5 2400 sandy bridge 3.1Ghz
Corsair 8GB DDR3
Asus P8Z68-V LE Mobo
Asus 560 TI
Samsung spinpoint F1 1tb
Windows 7

SO I have been having some very weird lock ups. It seems to happen when I am browsing the web, the web browser ( I have tried chrome and FF) completely locks up and hangs the entire system, with a buzz of it playing the same sound over and over really fast. Then I started to get ntdll.dll errors.

Steps so far to troubleshoot.
1st I tried a different OS on same drive to rule out the problem. Still locked up
2nd Ran Memtest, Came up clean
3rd Ran a HDD scan from seagate, Came up clean as well
4th HDD out of laptop, clean install of windows 8, Still locking up.
5th Updated bios to latest version

So I am currently running windows 8 and it locks up in the same way as 7 except it doesnt hang the system, but when Ctrl + Alt + Del hit task manager and it wont do anything and locks up the GUI but I was in Team Speak before (studying for CCNP exam tomorrow) and I was still able to talk to my friend. I replicating the problem except starting task manager up on boot. Task manager for some reason gets no data from anywhere, no CPU usage, nothing.

So any ideas on where to go next? Becasue I am stumped!

Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows? Have you tried to recreate this in Safe Mode - if so, does it still lock up?

Hmmm kinda sounds like a driver problem.. since win 8 and win 7 would be using same
drivers no doubt.. does it happen on any webpage or ones with flash or video playing
as then you can maybe pin it on video card driver or sound driver

have you tried running it in vga compaitable mode and then launching browser

if all built on motherboard then hardware faulty dont sound to good

the lock ups ive had on other pcs have always been bad drive or motherboard fault
gets to a certain temp and wham but
you tried new drive and fresh installs so cant be drive or corrupted windoze

have you tried booting your PC/laptop with BartPE which is like windowsPE
runs entreiy with cit down drivers and windows running of keydisc or cdrom
can be handy for trouble shooting

I'd start checking hardware.

Assuming drivers up to date, and bios is set to default settings (other than drive ahci/ide ).

Power supply , cpu cooler (installed incorrectly), gfx card, memory.

Without spares, probably the cpu cooler is all you could check. You could try running one memory card at a time to try and eliminate that as a reason too.

Does your mainboard have onboard graphics?
Can you remove the graphics card and try with just onboard?

Are you running the smart response tech option?

When I bought my 2500k and asus P8z68 Vpro MOBO but running integrated graphics and 64bit, I had nothing but weird lockups which I didnt resolve until I disabled it and split OS to SSD and Files to HDD.

PSU: Cooler Master RS-650PCAR-E3
According to the voltages reported in the bios they look to be within the recommend range, I think the 12v is reading at 11.8v. I am about to try without the graphics card and if its not that I will try another PSU, I will also try Windows XP to rule out drivers. And Windows 7 and 8 are both 64bit

Update:
So I borrowed a PSU for my flat mate and have been running with no GFX card but I am still getting lock ups.

I have just swapped what slots my ram is in to see if that changes anything.

Any more ideas on what else I can try?

if the windows xp installed locked up then kinda points to motherboard fault
you did try XP right?

unless it locks at the same action each time only.then still could be something else. if locks up randomly then MB

Run something like prime95 and see if that causes a reboot\lockup?

I always try some of the live cds... like ubuntu linux or bartpe as they can boot of keydisc or
cdrom and without needing to install os-es and see if they lock up while running some test apps

saves a bit of time installing all fresh different os-es on to hard drive

but it will be more generic installs with livecds unless you edit them to use the latest video and sound drivers.. if locks up with then/still.. then kinda points to
MB since theyre running in memory and cdrom only and not using hard drive.. so it will test out
most things

livecds can use web also.. so can test if browser lock ups with a youtube

Ive noticed with the latest flash player update come out a few days ago.. it locks up firefox.. but it hasnt crash pc but
dos lock up browser! I rolled back from 11.3 to 11.2 flash espc if using FF 3.6 still but
some reports say FF8 to 12 builds (nightly locking)
but you said was whole pc not just the browser.. but thought I point that out incase as well

So trying to install xp. But keep getting bsod stop 0x7b. It seem to happen most when browsing the Web. I don't recall it ever locking up when playing a game. I will try ubuntu and see if I can get anywhere with that.
