I am looking for a replacement UPS. Mine has finally died after it received it's long service award... <1 min silence>

Enough of that, I bought 2 new 12V 9AH batteries which might be looking for a good home soon (for an amount to be discussed later)

The UPS will be servicing:

1. WiFi router (maybe 2) (say 20 watt)

2. pfSense box (240 watt)

3. Synology NAS (40 watt)

From this, I am looking at a 650VA UPS (I think). I will connect it to my Synology with a USB cable.

This looks like it will do the job, but I would like to hear your opinions and advice too. Thanks

Hi there

Been down a similar road for draytek router, ONT, netgear readynas and unifi 250w switch and ended up building my own based on @noroad guidance using 1000w inverter and deep cycle battery that gives me about 4h run time for around $250.

I recently just bought

1 x APC Back-UPS Series Tower UPS, 700VA, Line-Interactive
@ $183.24 each ($159.34 excl GST each)

From ascent last month to replace an older one I had where batteries had gone and I knew I had to take it completely apart to swap the battery.

Monitoring that and another one via a raspberry pi with nut. That particular one has my nvr, cameras, main switch, aps and home automation server (set to shut down after 5 mins).

I run one of these for my PC, Router and WIFI access point

At full load on the CPU and GPU im sitting at about 55% of the UPS's load capicity. i have the PC shut off when the ups battery gets to 65% 5-10 minutes and then i can power the router and access point for about another 3-4 hours.

hi there, only downside with my solution is no monitoring of the battery via the likes of Nut of inbuilt via NAS/PC. So autoshutdowns do not occur, but uptime is long so hoping to not need it. I also have borrowed a CTEK bluetooth battery monitor which seems to do the trick nicely of telling "what is left in the tank"

Can't help too much on speccing a UPS. However, I just bought a 2U rack mount SMX750I. Where are you located? The batteries are the originals (sat in the UPS for years in a box) so I may need some 12V 9AH batteries.

I am in Upper Hutt. Work in Wellington. Bought them from Jaycar over the weekend

Been very happy with it, and it talks nicely with the Synology. Just changed the batteries in it after 6 years of 24/7 use.

I like the look of the new one.

I was just about to ask about CyberPower ... and in come jarledb ... I am trying to keep under $200. What batteries does these units take? And why would they say on the website the batteries are not user replaceable? Is it because you have to unscrew it to get to them?

+1 for Cyberpower, talks nicely with my QNAP for autoshutdown, appears they are also well supported by Synology

How do the batteries come out of the cyber power? Simple pull off the front and slide them out? Or is there more deconstruction needed than that? My main bugbear is simple battery replacement.
