Bought an OLED (LG C2) for the lounge over a year ago and zero regrets. Inky blacks with HDR highlights is still jaw dropping for both console gaming and tv/movie watching.

Now want to upgrade my pc monitor to OLED. The 27" 1440p ones that all use the same LG panel look to be about right for my budget, with AOC recently releasing their take on it at about 20% less price. Quick google says that it isn't available in NZ yet, PB do finally have the LG and Asus ones though. Looking at Amazon I could import the AOC for about $1800 landed, but would prefer to buy locally for any potential warranty issues. Also I'd guess the NZ local price would be closer to $1600 since the USD price is $800...? Anyone else already got one of these panels and how are you finding it?

Any other options I should consider? maybe the 34" Alienware AW3423DWF from Dell NZ for $1660?

For any that you have in mind, it'd be good to also check their warranty policy for OLED PC monitors and burn-in, to see if they cover that at all. It's a higher probability you'll have burn-in on a PC monitor compared to a TV.

Earlier this year LG said that their 2 year warranty for the 27GR95QE-B gaming monitor will cover burn-in from "normal and proper use". I'm not sure if that applies in New Zealand, but considering we have strong consumer guarantees cover here, that would help.

Pretty sure with modern OLED burn-in is lessened quite a bit, same tech in both LG’s TV’s and monitors so it doesn’t matter which you get as long as you do usual care for static elements.

I have a LG C1 so didn’t really have a choice of monitors at the time, but it still comes down to price. You could almost buy another LG OLED tv for similar cost. The only benefit is the higher refresh rate at 1440p@240Hz instead of 4k@120Hz and maybe displayport. For that level of purchase I’d want some warranty on it.

The Dell monitor is nice as well but had some issues being the first gen model out, unless theres a new one I’ve missed recently. The AOC one has reviews stating it has relatively worse colour compared to other OLED’s.

Best bet is the LG or Asus ROG OLED but they’re still pricy here. I would still consider the LG 42” OLED TV first for that price point.

The last of the 42" C2s went for an exceptionally good price. I've only just stopped kicking myself. A JBhifi guy I talked to said he sold a lot as monitors.

burn-in isn't nearly as big an issue now as the dimming of white pixels is.

There is the Samsung version that might be more to your taste.

i can't do OLED monitor because anything with a white background obliterates my eyeballs in 1 nano second. too bright. i can't use my 15" Dell OLED laptop for too long. i cannot imagine a 27" frying my eyes.

the best screen seems to be the current Macbook Pro ones - microled or something. somehow the white background don't burn a hole in my retina.

but everyone's different. i also struggle with IPS displays, gaming at 20% brightness is already very fatiguing. VA seems to be slightly better

but nothing beats the Macbook (well a 14" does help) on my eyes.

OLED usually has a seperate pixel brightness setting which can be adjusted independently. As far as HDR goes oled is actually on the dimmer side, though it’s catching up to LED.

Macbooks are likely to have this lowered by default, simply for power conservation.

It's the white backgrounds. The oled light on my 15" dell is crazy intense and I can't look at the screen anytime there is a white background. Esp at night.

Do you waar glasses? Have you had an eye test recently?

Try to make your environment match the brightness of the screen too. If your screen is bright and environment dark, you will get eye strain.

I have the AW3423DWF, its a great display would recommend it to others. Just make sure you have the space its a wide beast :)

Also the dell display software really helps out with snapping of windows to stop head panning. And firmware updates are a thing too so good idea to keep on that as well.

I use an LG C1 48" OLED as my PC monitor in the home office. I sit 1m away and love the experience.

I had pricespy monitoring the price of LG C2 and as expected after the release of the C3 they had some deep sales as low as $1300 (around April) for the 42", but at the time didn't have the funds. The C3 42" is currently $2400 which is beyond my budget. Also I'm a bit iffy about going to 4Kwith my 3080 gpu, I'd rather run 1440p at a higher framerate. iirc 1440p on a 27" is similar dpi to 4K on a 42".

I believe there has been firmware updates for the Dell monitor that has resolved the early gen issues.

I'll look more into AOC colours, one review I saw said still pretty good.

yeah, they got down to $1300 back in April. One could assume the C3 will do similar once the C4 comes out...🤷‍♂️
