Dell monitors with USB-C power delivery.

  1. Can the monitor deliver that power independently with no USB-C source connection?
  2. The other USB ports on the monitor - are they also independently powered even if they don't support actual PD?
  3. and if the Dell USB-C ports don't deliver power independently is there a socket to provide USB-C power to the monitor independently of the PC's USB data connection?

Thanks in advance!

I've no experience with the Dell USB-C docking monitors but do have experience with HP and other brands.

Firstly, my responses assume you are talking about a full sized desktop monitor.  (Portable/travel monitors for use as a second screen with a laptop while travelling are a different kettle of fish.)

1) Yes.  The monitors are mains powered, just like a normal monitor.  If the monitor is powered on but no computer is connected, it can (for example) charge a mobile phone from it's USB-A or USB-C ports.

2) Yes, see 1 above

3) See 1 above

Full size desktop monitors. Your answers indicate the USB ports are effectively powered hubs. I have not seen that before in a monitor. That does answer my questions thanks!

I've owned several USB-C monitors from Dell, LG and Philips. They all only needed one power source - a single power plug into a wall socket will provide power to the display + USB-C + any additional USB ports.
