looking to buy a new monitor for my desktop.
would be using it for normal every day use and
gaming every now and then. for the gaming
and media sides of things im guessing ill be
wanting a HD ready or  full HD monitor right?

could you guys provide links or models for good
hd/full hd monitors that would soot my needs
and have great price values?

http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=9308
is that any good or are there others for better
price?

finally i have a ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card;
is this good and will it play games like css fine with
high detail or?

Your video card will be fine for CS:S.
Im looking at upgrading my current video solution which plays CS:S fine to a 4850 :)

If you know someone who already has CS:S, do the following :
Install Steam, copy your friends SteamApps (I think it is) directory into your steam directory and then you have all the data files etc, saves on downloading it all :)
Then "buy" it via the steam store.

Should be it :)

ATI have released new GFX cards, http://hothardware.com/News/AMD-ATI-Radeon-HD-5870-DirectX-11-GPU-Review/ might be worth a look at.

The Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 Game Edition Video Card, Radeon HD 5850, 1024MB, DDR5, PCIe-16, DVI, CrossFire, HDMI At $500 looks really nice.

This should anyway push down the cost of any 4850's.

are these real good ones? dont know alot about this stuff but i currently have a Dell Studio XPS 435MT desktop; core i7 2.67ghz, 4gb ram, 600gb hd, 64bit vista premium soon to be win7 premium, would my system work fine with either of those gpu's and which one is better and costs for both?
also how much do u think i cud sell my 4850 for, 2 days old?
thanks.

Nice rig! I'd hold on to the 4850 for a awhile longer, it is by no means a low end card.

If its a 512mb version you could probably flog it off for around $150.

Copying the directories etc is a bit of a mickey mouse way to be honest.

Steam has a backup facility within it. You can backup the game to a directory and it creates an executable file along with it.
You then install Steam, run that exe file, and it will install it into yours, along with any installed updates etc. Its a more reliable method.
As long as you purchase the game, then it'll work fine.
