Hi all,

I'm currently pondering the purchase of a Samsung G810. And, I'm wondering if we have any G810 owners on this forum that would like to comment on their overall experiences with the phone?

I'm not looking for "Buy XXX instead", "It's sucks" or "It's great" type comments - I can decide that for myself, thanks. But, rather the pros/cons and subjective experiences that anyone has during their average day to day usage. In other words, please be informative. Also, any informative comments regarding experiences with Samsung support would be useful.

I don't have one, have only played with one for a few minutes in a store.

Its a nice phone, but Samsungs support is less than stellar, and the imaging isn't quite what you'd expect from a handset with those specs (the N82 is still better than this phone, although it lacks the optic zoom).

I don't know what voice-guided GPS options you'll have available for NZ, since Nokia maps won't run on this, and last I heard (and this may have changed since) Garmin Mobile XT wouldn't detect the internal GPS sensor on this phone either.

I'm also unclear as to whether the accelerometer of this phone is sorted for use by 3rd party apps, but I suspect it isn't (most of the accelerometer apps are made for the Nokia S60 phones).

It will not support various excellent Nokia apps like Sportstracker/Ovi services/Share Online etc, but there are replacements available for some of these (Shozu for Share Online for example), but the integration into the OS isn't as tight.

What does one of these cost right now? Previously it cost more than the N82, which to my mind offers more bang for your buck given the software issues.

Thanks for your input. However, I'd like to hear experiences from those that actually own a G810, as opposed to someone who just played with one a few minutes in some store.

While I've considered a N82 it's not a compelling choice for me at the moment.

Sure, thats why I suggested mobile-reviews forum, which is likely to one of the few places anywhere where you'll get reaonably informed feedback from actual users.

Most of the stuff I mentioned are things that are worth factoring into a decision that have nothing to do with the G810 as such.

Whatever, just tried to help - how would I know if you know about the differences between Samsung and Nokia S60 phones and software/firmware support? Seemed a good idea to mention it in case you weren't, no way to tell from your original post, no need to make out you're being condescended to.

In case anyone else is interested: I've decided to purchase the G810 and will probably have it by the weekend. After a lot of research and comparison I've decided this is the multimedia phone for me.

I've compared it to the Nokia N79, N82, N85, N95 8GB, N96 and 6220 Classic. The N79, N82, N85, N95 8GB and N96 don't offer the features and performance I'm after and, also, their build quality isn't as nice. And, they are all more expensive than the G810 here in New Zealand. While the 6220 is less expensive, it doesn't have Wifi. And, again, the form factor and build quality are less than desirable to me.

While Samsung is still in the early stages of their Symbian offerings, and may not offer the remarkable add-on software of Nokia, the G810 offers the right balance of features, build quality and value for money to me. Also, third party software can make for what I might miss on a Nokia Symbian phone.

So, I'm going to grab the G810 and see how it goes. I may regret doing so, but somehow, I doubt it. ;)

I made no such assumption at all, as I said quite clearly I mentioned in case you weren't aware. The assumption I made was to think that someone wouldn't be so touchy when another person was genuinely trying to be of help.

After you re-read my post and see the "in case" bit then you'll see I'm not trying to deflect anything, there was no error - except an apparently unfounded expectation that you'd read my post carefully enough.

Anyway, its good to hear you've made your decision (hopefully the chaps at Mobile-Review forums were able to assist on the hands on experience front). Will be interested to see how you get on, I had considered that handset myself for some time.
