Hiho,

I currently using a Netgear 4 port cable router with Telstra Clear without issues. However, my friend has gone and given me his Netgear ADSL wireless router and forced me to think about wireless.

The question is... would it be possible to connect the wireless ADLS router up to my Netgear cable router and use it just as a wireless access point? ID so, how?

Yes you can, just check that its DHCP server in the adsl router is off, if you can tell it not to attempt to connect the ADSL circuit then thats good to but not nessecary. Connect it to a lan port on your cable router via one of the 4 lan ports and dont connect anything to the phone line. this way it will act as simply as a Access point, no traffic will be passed through the adsl/router of it, and if it did theres no where to go.

I did not realise this is possible.... I have a d-link DSL604T gathering dust since I switched to TelstraClear a few months ago.... Do you know of the same is possible on this hardware?

yes the LAN ports usually act as an Ethernet bridge (ie hub) to the Wireless
as cyril said, disable the DHCP. also change it's LAN IP to one on the same subnet as your ADSL modem to make the web-based management work.

for example:
ADSL router IP = 192.168.1.1 (DHCP server)
Wireless bridge IP = 192.168.1.254 (DHCP off)
