Hi Guys,

Today I was lucky enough to get UFB 200/20 installed. Currently I have an Air Port Extreme model A 1408 in bridge mode, this is plugged into the Spark HG659b router ---- to ONT.

I also have an airport extreme set up to extend the network at the back end of the house. Small house 90M2.

I am finding my wireless speeds all over the show. standing in front of the base station I can get 200 down, however if I move around a corner or to the middle of the house I get around 40-50mbps. I've tried locating the Airport base station higher, and that may have helped a little.

Just wondering if there are any tips I could use to better my home network make the most of the UFB. The extreme and express base stations are a must as we are a house full of Apple devices and use Airplay a lot.

Really this is what to expect from WiFi and there is no universal fix. Ensure you're using 5GHz WiFi and also ensure that WiFi is disabled on your Spark HG659b router if you're using the Airport. The Spark HG659b actually supports Wireless AC so I'd suggest also trying to connect to this directly and trying the same tests.

If you need speed then I would strongly suggest using Ethernet for the clients that need it. WiFi is more a convenience and not a replacement for Ethernet.

And the speed you will see depends on the device you are using and the wifi standard it is connected using, along with the wifi signal you see.

1 wall can easily half your wifi speed.

Are both Airport Extremes connected via ethernet cables?

If the Airport Extreme you are using to extend the network is not cabled, it will reduce the effective wireless speed for the whole house.
As the Airport Extremes are using up wireless bandwidth connecting to each other.

You should try turning off the second Airport Extreme to see if the speed improves.
Also look at running a cable somehow from the second Airport Extreme back to the first Airport Extreme. That would give you the best solution.

Thank you, that a great tip! I might look at Jaycar for a long ethernet cable to run under the house between both Apple routers.
