Hey everyone, so up until yesterday my internet speed was a pretty consistent 33 mbps on VDSL, however overnight last night the router restarted and then it was running at 28 mbps, and so naturally I was like "oh ok I'll just restart it again to see if that will put it back to 33 mbps" but noooooo it went down to 20... and I have no idea why, I tried a different filter, different dsl cable and router (although the same model)

The router is a spark HG630b and I'm on bigpipe.

Also my ping has stayed exactly the same so I'm guessing its nothing to do with DLM?

Thanks for any help.

Ok DONT restart it again. Just leave it.

DLM will slowly have to work its way back up now. Do not fiddle with it.

I find restarting it late at night/early morning when there is less noise will get me a better speed at the 9dB noise margin target, it will drop down during the day, but speed remains constant. If I restart it in the evening when everyone is online and hammering their connection, the 9dB target gets me a lower speed.

I agree on this. But not when it is DLM training.

Keeping it off for ages (like 10 mins) seems to stop it from screwing up with DLM, I have only had it revert to 8 or 16ms laggy profiles after it has actually had a fault on the line, which with old insulated cables from the pre-80's like noah had on his arc is a frequent thing in winter.

That seems like a crazy over-response from DLM, doesn't it? 13mbps over two reboots? I must have restarted my modem 10 times in an hour the other night trying to get bridging to work properly. Sync speed never dropped at all.

I suspect it will be a noise issue, someone else got VDSL and it is crosstalking on the crappy copper that is past its useby date now.

Yea thats what  I thought, also I'll just add that while rebooting it I used the button on the router and waited like 30 secs, so its not like I was pulling the DSL cable or anything haha.

heaps of errors on that line so i suspect there is a probably somewhere there, hence the drop.

whats the house wiring like? single jack point connected or do all the other ones still work for VDSL?

14.6 SNR so the line was much worse when it synced up and chose the speed to target 9dB.

I would say its a fault.

Ild see about it being a fault.

the fact that your sitting around the 12dB margin is iver, noise changes or your now on 12dB profiles - One of those rare gems.

9dB -> 12dB does account for about the speed loss your seeing there
