Hi temporarily, Im using phone 4g and its hotspot for data. The phone has fairly weak transmit signal, and it would be an improvement in several ways if I could bridge the hotspot via NF4V.

Having read the manual, there is an option to set up a bridge in nf4v wireless, but its not altogether clear to me how to do it. For a start the settings require a mac address for the hotspot, and how do you handle the hotspot login and password options?

Perhaps Im barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks,

Alistair.

So you're wanting something to be a wireless bridge (connecting to a WiFi network) and then still function as an AP? That's not possible with that router (or most routers for that matter).

While I don't believe in using routers as access points the NF4V can do this

1. if you are this modem is ex slingshot/orcon it has custom firmware download and upgrade to latest generic firmware here https://support.netcommwireless.com/api/Media/Firmware/4d91b9bf-7ce9-46be-a1a6-8b4b82e3f12c?Product=2016.08.16_NetComm_NF4V_GURNV5.OT132A-8-NC.AU-R5B035.zip

2. factory reset the device, if this was a orcon/slingshot router the IP address written under the router is 192.168.1.1 with the generic firmware this becomes 192.168.20.1

3. Once factory reset 5 ports(4 LAN and 1 WAN) + the wireless interface are bridged together - log into http://192.168.20.1 note this password is admin/admin not the password written under your router

4. disable dhcp & configure wireless settings SSID+WPA2

5. change the admin password + IP address to match your LAN

EDIT: Just re-read and understand the OP wants to use the router as an AP client, in which case you can't

There are various devices marketed as travel routers that can do this.

Otherwise you can run NAT masquerade / Internet Connection Sharing on a PC with Wi-Fi (connected to phone hotspot) and LAN port (to Netcomm Wireless).
