I am currently using a Spark HG659b modem with a D-Link DAP 1650 extender. The modem is now dropping out virtually every day which is a right pain and I really would like to update it with something superior! We only have ADSL available....what would be a good replacement modem and/or mesh system to go for? The house is 3 bedroom, has gib walls, single level. Would appreciate any suggestions.

If you've only got ADSL then get Spark to send you one of their Spark Smart Modems + Mesh Extender. This is your cheapest solution even if you have to pay for it.

"the modem is dropping out"

Is it Only wifi dropping out ? .
Is the internet actually disconnecting (water + dsl + bad copper lines ) .
Do PC's etc connected to the modem(router) via network cable also drop out ?

are wifi devices in the same room as the router free from dropouts ?
Can you run network cables to the other rooms ?

Pages/sites will not load. Rebooting modem is the only way to get working again.

I have since purchased a Spark Smart modem and mesh (as per advice from above post) and everything is working perfectly. (Speed is slightly slower but stronger wireless and stable)

We also had a HG659B at our business premises on VDSL and had the same problems there. Now on wireless there which again has cured the problem. I don't have a lot of faith in those modems as we had problems on both sites right from the time we installed them...just gradually got worse over time.

Many thanks for the reply

Fantastic to hear! I think for the majority of people it is better to use your ISP provided router or go with options they recommend. The Smart Mesh is actually a rather good solution.

Speed will improve over time. I've found these modems to be great for ADSL + VDSL connections.
