So I moved in with in-laws and they have a AT&T wireless dsl modem. The main desktop is hardlined and they have a laptop that is wireless. I have a desktop with a external wireless usb. The network is wep shared and I couldn't connect. I turned it to wep open and then I could. Now I found out that the laptop does not have internet now. Turned it back to wep shared and laptop works again now mine doesn't. How do I get it to where both work?!?! All computers are Dell Xp home edition sp3. Laptop has built-in wireless card.

Disconnect from the wireless network on your in laws laptop, change the security to open and then connect to the network again. You'll need to supply the wep key again which should allow it to work.

Or manually edit the properties via advanced settings to match. XP I think by default won't connect to WEP shared without manually setting up SSID, encryption, key first - there is Microsoft article on it but I can't find it.
