I've just bought a CSR Bluetooth dongle that came bundled with Widcomm

When I installed the software the following occurred:

1. I can connect my laptop via Bluetooth to my mobile (Nokia 6310i) - CSD and GPRS connections can be established. When I try an use Internet Explorer over the connection I just get DNS failure screen, if I try and use Outlook Express over the connection the Bluetooth connection disconnects.

2. All my other connections behave the same way. If I try and connect to my mobile with my existing serial cable the same scenario plays out - connection but no data flow.

3. My Ethernet port (set for DHCP over a Broadband connection) also fails. Instead of obtaining an IP Address via DHCP as usual, it assigns itself a windows 169.x.x.x address instead. Ipconfig will not let me release or renew this address, the response is that I'm trying to modify something (my Ethernet adapter) that is not a socket.

4. At the end of the Widcomm software installation I got a warning message that my WinSock settings had been changed, this looks to be the cause of the problem. What was changed, why and how can I fix it?

All I want to do is connect my laptop to my phone via Bluetooth - any advice on how this can be achieved?

If anyone's interested...

I bought a different Bluetooth adapter (Belkin F8T003) that also came bundled with Widcomm - exactly the same problem occured - DHCP appeared to get re-written and would not work on any comm port.

Even after reloading Windows (three times!!) I still couldn't communicate.

Eventually, after getting my PC back to normal and removing the Widcomm software, I borrowed a copy od Widcomm 1.3.0 from a friend and everything worked correctly.

I could n't get any help from Belkin or Widcomm so I don't know if this is a generic problem with - but if you're having problems with Bluetooth on Windows XP Pro, try getting a different version of the Bluetooth software

I'm curious when you say:

"I can connect my laptop via Bluetooth to my mobile (Nokia 6310i) - CSD and GPRS connections can be established."

How do you know you have a connection? Is the "G" showing on your phone?

Have you accessed the internet via GPRS on your phone before? Does your provider require a fee before allowing CSD to carry data?

I assume you've created a DUN configuration? Are you sure the "dialing number" (e.g. *99#) and configuration settings are correct for your provider?

Doesn't sound like a BT issue since you can't get a connection through USB either?

Just trying to help think through what might be the issue.
