I have a wireless laptop hooked up to my cable modem. I want to be able to use the "wireless" feature of the laptop. What will I need to purchase in order to do that. I have no other computers to hardwire to the router so what are my options? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Geekzone... You can connect a wireless router to your cable modem, and configure it to connect to the Internet with the IP address and DNS given by your provider.

Most routers have DHCP enabled, so as soon as you connect to a router with your laptop you will get an internal IP address.

Thanks for the info. I just returned a wireless router because I thought it didn't work. I connected my cable modem to the router and thought that was all I would need to do...aside from configuration. But the set up wizard wouldn't allow me to go any further until I connected the router to the laptop (via CAT5). Am I missing something? I don't want to have my laptop connected to anything.

By defalt you shold be able to connect via Wireless. Then access the setup pages from your browser and then change the settings to match your provider's.

That's pretty much all you need.
