Hey

I seem to be have this slight problem with this Thomson modem. I trying to change the IP range of the modem from the standard 192.168.1.XXX to 10.1.1.XXX

I have Two adsl connections here at work and we are trying to link them together through a router.

I have a Dlink 504T and a Thomson TG585v7

Now i trying to change my Thomson Ip Address and Subnet mask to match my Dlinks.

DLink uses the Following Range 10.1.1.XXX with Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

I tried following this Tut: http://www.speedtouch.net.nz/500ChangeIPaddress_v4.3.htm

Also i have edited DHCP pool for the dlink so the range is only 10.1.1.2 ----> 10.1.1.99, then trying to have the thomson 10.1.1.100 ---> 10.1.1.253

Now when i try changing my Thomsons setting i get an error  Saying " Validation Failed For Subnet Mask, The IP Address is not valid for this Field"

Thing i don't get is that the Subnet Mask is already used in the "192.168.1.XXX" Configuration? even if i try 255.0.0.0 it still says the same.

Then it also asks me to fill in the Rest of the Fields "Secundary DNS" "Primary WINS" "Secondary WINS" Which i thought i wouldn't need if i am editing DHCP pool / Gateway

Awful modem. It has the worst user interface I have seen , ever. Think you might need to use the cli interface.....google thomson CLI.

I couldn't reconfigure this myself , ended up accepting modem defaults and changing the other network devices to work on 192.168.....

Now have the telecom 2wire, no problems with configuring that.

Yeah, unfortunately these devices are not the greatest for configuration. I think your best bet is to go with CLi access and if that fails then you could try modifying the settings , which you can backup to a place on your computer as a txt file and then modify the txt file and re upload.

Agree that you might need to accept default on the Thomson or change the router, but exactly how do you "link" both to the router?

Are you trying to have 2 different subnets or have them both within the same subnet? DHCP is only for local address allocation and does not specify subnets (ie its a result of the subnet setting). There should only be one DHCP server operating per subnet unless they have no overlap and both point at the same gateway and they also point to the DNS as well (often the gateway/modem itself). If you want different subnets then you could use 192.1.1.xxx and 192.1.2.xxx to tell your router they are separate networks. Note that these subnets are very standard C-class subnets, some modems might not let you change to a non-standard mask or change to an A-class.

If you want to use a 192.168.1.129/25 subnet it might get a bit complicated without a network tech to manage it for you.

Time to find a new industry!

And what sort of 'router' is it. Utilizing 2 DSL connections takes a bit of smarts unless you want fixed static routes for certain IPs. And if you're doing NAT some routers struggle to do anything past 1 WAN IP unless you buy a decent bit of kit.
