Does anyone know the integration for scheduled rubbish / recycle pick up?
I came across one a week or so ago but didnt bookmark it, but cant for the life of me find it again

Its an integration that uses the local area ID found here:
https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/rubbish-recycling/rubbish-recycling-collections/Pages/rubbish-recycling-collection-days.aspx

That ID pulls the actual schedule for your address (and bypasses the need for calendar reminders etc) I meant to grab it for testing but lost it....

I wasn't aware there was an integration that pulled the council info directly.

I have been using https://github.com/bruxy70/Garbage-Collection which pulls NZ/Auckland public holidays and offsets collections etc.

But I had a hunt and found this one https://github.com/mampfes/hacs_waste_collection_schedule looks like this pulls various council collection dates.

My rubbish / recycling collection days change approximately once every few years. I put it in my calendar and get reminded. Easy.

I like tech, but sometimes there's such a thing as too much tech!

Nice - that was pretty easy to set up and seems to do the trick.

Now to think of a fun way to remind me to put the bins out.

"Home Assistant rubbish reminders"

I thought @SpookyAwol was going to complain about HA reminders being unreliable, hard to use, or you know, rubbish in general.

Completely caught off guard.

I just have a bi weekly calendar event for recycling in my google calendar, and remember if there was a holiday on Monday.

It's all well and good to have it in Home Assistant, but how are you using Home Assistant to remind you?

I just go with the calendar route...but I have an e-ink display stuck on the fridge running this that displays our shared household calendar which includes the rubbish collection schedule. There hasn't been a lot of development on it recently though so I'm thinking about changing the Pi to an ESP32 and running the display on ESPHome, but that's a lot more work.

I just look out the window and see which bins the neighbours have put out.

Im thinking about triggering the robotic mower to run it to the gate for me, but that would just be next level lazy ;)

Otherwise Im thinking loud noises and flashing of lights at 6am to wake the kids when they havent done the chores and the bin is still detected in place.
But Im open to suggestions :p

Obraik: It's all well and good to have it in Home Assistant, but how are you using Home Assistant to remind you? ...

  1. Notification popup on mobile phone early in the morning, especially if security camera object recognition detects bin still in usual location
  2. Displayed on dashboard card of HA tablet "hanging on the fridge"
  3. Use TTS & my morning routine to remind me to take the trash out
  4. .
  5. Profit
  6. Configure the Roomba to nudge the bin onto the kerb
  7. Don't allow the garage door to open until #1 is resolved

Senecio: I just look out the window and see which bins the neighbours have put out.

For me that's at the very least a walk up the driveway

Christchurch is now available with the HACS Waste Collection Schedule custom integration. This is handy for when days change (public holidays, weather, strikes, etc.) and also for getting a reminder to put the bin out & which bins. You can also tie this in with a tilt sensor to detect if (when?) it gets picked up and then contact the council, if not. Also can have a reminder to bring it back in once done. Tilt sensor can also detect if it fell over and remind you to go pick it up.

What are you using for a tilt sensor?
