Hi there
I wonder if someone could help me - starting yesterday my iPhone 5 has started having problems while charging - losing app icons, randomly opening apps, and generally glitching.
Can I do anything, hoping not to have to reset the whole thing, but if I do, how can I save my data?
Thanks for your help
Tina

Hi Tina

I am not 100% sure but a quick Google search should answer this,

John

Yes I had backed up to iCloud, unfortunately though it didn't work because it's still doing it, so looks like I'll have to take it in to the repair shop.
Thanks for your help :)

Also check the moisture sensors to make sure they're not tripped, if they are it could mean liquid damage. Liquid damage could be caused by anything from high humidity to actually physically getting it wet.

Tried a different cable - there's some electronics in the cable that controls the lightning connector which could confuse the phone if faulty....

Thanks for suggestions. You were right about the cable. We finally worked out that the iPad and iPhone chargers had got mixed up and that was the problem. Embarrassed to say it was that simple! Still I learned a lot in the process. Thanks again.

Hi - great to hear that you have sorted your problem, but it would be great if you could clarify a few things.
Were you only experiencing problems when your phone was plugged in?
Do you think it was a faulty cable... or just using the 'wrong' charger?
Apple have put out 3 different but very similar looking chargers for iPhones & iPads - 5W, 10W & 12W. From what I've read they 'should' be able to be all used with the different devices but will either charge faster or slower depending on which device you have. So I would be surprised if just using a different charger unit was the cause of glitches... but interested in hearing your conclusion. Thanks.

Cheers,
Mike

My partner was using the iPhone 5 charger for the iPad 4 as well and the iPad wouldn't charge either so it seems as though it was literally just the two chargers causing problems on the other device. All working well now. I was surprised too. Cheers.

It's odd that Apple didn't decide to label the charging units more clearly than the small grey numbers amongst the safety message on the unit.
I've known a few people who wonder why their iPads don't seem to be charging when they use their iPhone charger by mistake so I always suggest to people that they label them accordingly.
Now that they've changed the charger wattage for the iPad4 & iPad Air to 12W I guess there will also be mix-ups with the earlier 10W chargers (but I guess it won't make much impact).

Cheers,
Mike

The device draws the required charge rate mA so as mentioned, any charger will do, perhaps a faulty charger?
