Hi

So here at my mother's place, she has an apple watch (for about a year now) interestingly (and she only told me this today) that text message and WhatsApp sounds are coming to her apple watch but not her phone

Turn off Bluetooth and the sounds come through her phone

Voice call ringing comes through to both. I can't (even with the help of google) work out how to change this

Is this by design?

Can it be changed?

Also, her phone is an iPhone 6s running 15.7.2 (latest supported) and Watch is an Apple Watch SE , 40mm running WatchOS 8.7

After ages with the same problem with my wife's watch, found out this is by design.  Thou shall conform to Apples way!  In theory you don't need the audible alert on the phone if you are in range with the watch, and certain conditions are met.  It varied depending on the status of the phone, as to where the alert went.

We solved this by turning off the wrist detection as described here, haven't had any issues since, alerts go to both consistently.  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8218997
