This may be an obvious question and I am assuming the answer is Yes but I am a Mac and Linux user so I don't know for sure.

If you are a Windows-only user and you buy an iPhone or iPod Touch, do you HAVE to use iTunes for Windows to manage it? What are the alternatives and are they popular or worthwhile?

Put it a slightly way -- can it be assumed that a Windows-based iPhone user will 999/1000 have iTunes installed?

Short answer is yes, itunes is the way to go. I'm sure there are some other apps out there that allow you to interface with the device but none work as well as itunes integration.

Double twist is one option, so is phoneview?, these don't have a complete featureset for the iphone, and not enitrely sure doubletwist is compatible with the iphone but definitely other ipods.

You need itunes if you want to backup your iphone. Also to upgrade to new firmwares.
