I'm after some advice from people who have used these things. I'm looking at buying a handheld GPS that I can use for just about anything - in the car, on my bikes, in a kayak, walking etc and I've decided that the Colorado 300 looks like the best bet. I always like to do my research before buying stuff especially something as techy and expensive as a GPS. It would also be good to have a play with one before buying but it probably isn't going to be possible to do that in this case. Living in Whangarei makes it difficult finding these sorts of things on the shelf and no one will get one in unless I commit to buying it up front.

So, the next best thing is to ask people who use them what their experience with them has been like. Is the Colorado 300 easy to use with its dial rather than buttons and what mapping package would you recommend. For use in the car a street mapping package with auto-routing would be useful and for other times the topo maps would be useful. From what I have seen there are three mapping packages available - Memory-Map, Topomaps from Maptoaster and the NZ open GPS project package.
